good foxing calibar

Thankyou! You doused cold water on the .22LR / 22 Hornet comparison before I got to it. I shoot a lot of Hornet every year. While I like the 34 to 35 grain class in my CZ, my "heavy" bullet is a Winchester 46 grain HP at 2840 fps. That will stop a Montana coyote at 200 yards with the proper shot. It would certainly kill a fox. ~Muir

hornet bullets

Hi Muir..I used to use Remington factory ammo with 45grain soft points but I had a couple of foxes which were hard to find after the shot even though they were pretty well hit thro & thro.Since I switched to the Hornady they drop on the spot.I can't understand why some people slag the hornet,it's a brilliant small ground round against foxes.
Now the .17hmr,that's another story.Oops, maybe I've gone and stirred up a hornets nest :)

My current fox calibre is 22-250.

I actually wanted .223, but the gunsmith had a .22-250 on the shelf, and would have had to order .223. The resultant discount won the day, and I have not had cause to regret.

.223, .22-250 and .243 have been my foxing favourites over the years though I used to use a .270 with 110-130 grainers (the ammo was free and the backstop mountains and the Atlantic).

Nailing a lot right now with .22 WMR (.22 magnum) on farms - it does a good job out to 150 with the right round. Also the quality of .22 WMR ammo has really gone up leaps so no more stories about it being an intrinsically poor grouper. I get sub inch at 100yds as standard out of CZ 452 and about an inch to inch and a half out of an H&K semi auto sporter. No more .17HMR ....22 WMR for me.

Best, Craig

like a lot of others i really cant see what there problem is with you using a 22-250 the only thing i have seen in the past tho is that people seem to think that its bigger than a .243 (due to the 250 part of the discription) and to a lot of people a .243 is a elephant gun.
Ive also owned many of the fox caliber rifles and i can honestly say they all work they can all drop a fox with ease but if i had to get a smaller caliber again i really used to like my .222 its not overly noisey and was good consitantly up to 200yrds and to be honest how many foxes do we all really shoot that many over 200yrds? the bulk of my fox work is done from 100-150yrds and i do a lot of fox control throughout the year

good foxing calibre

While photo postings seem to be behaving themselves, I'll get this out of the way,

.223 Remington seems OK,! these were unfortunate enough to be on the same farm with the same intentions in mind when Mike & I were in position, all in an hour & half, even made the pub1 :)
