"Goodbye old girl..."

Truly the only real downside to our four legged friends, saying goodbye. Lost our 14 year old beagle in November and this is such a very well written, familiar and loving account.

Seems I still have some tears left to shed...
You are not the only one. I'm sitting here blubbing, and I know neither yourself, nor your dogs.

All I can go on is the lovely eulogy you have given the old girl, and the great life you have given her in the time she was physically in your life. She will obviously be in your heart forever. Hugs.

Every single one of us has done the same thing more than once and I’ve no doubt we all fell exactly the same as you’ve done.
It’s never easy but we all feel righteous that we have made ten correct decision ate the correct time.

And we’ve all cried like fekin bairns.

My thoughts are with you. I let my own go myself a couple of months back.
Having done it for probably hundreds of animals so far, watching people endure that loss is what hurts the most, it never gets easier but speaking as one who knows, taking that decision for your buddy at the right time to give them the end they deserve is what makes you the owner they deserve. You put yourself there and go through the pain so they dont have to. It won't make you feel much better right now but be proud that you fulfilled that ultimate responsibility. Hang in there, the pain dulls but the happy memories only grow.

FFS, threads like this should come with tissues.
most of us have had to go through it at some point, it is not easy.
Beware some bright-eyed youngster will catch your eye and you will be off again.

Every time I’ve put a dog down in the last 30 odd years I’ve went out and gotten a pup.
I keep 3 dogs and at the moment have 6 yrs between them , hopefully my old lad holds out till this daft pup is a bit older .
I’ve never seen the point in waiting if you are sure you’ll get another dog .
And yes, a pup helps a lot in dealing with the loss of a dog.

Awful times. I had to hold off responding to this as my 14 year-old lab is very close to that stage too and frankly I am dreading it. The loss of a doggy pal is something that just goes with the territory of dog ownership but is always utterly devastating for all who rightly held them dear. Best to reflect on the many times you shared together and the montage of great memories you have as a result.
Your home was enriched by having her and your life the better by far.

Bggr, just read this and I'm sat here snivelling like a girl because my 14yr old Cocker had to be put to sleep last year.....
I've had lots of dogs since I was a kid and it never gets any easier.
They have all had really good lives, done all the things that dogs love, had freedom to run around, chasing stuff in the garden, digging for mice, hunting, picking up and had lots of TLC.
Sorry to hear that you've lost the old girl, I got a new pup a month after the old one died, but his ashes sit in a casket on the windowsill of the landing where he sat and watched the world go by.
He still gets a stroke and a "Good Morning" every day.

Wonderfull write up.
Every dog you ever have breaks your heart.
But they never die in your memories and you seem to have a lot of them.

Two years now that my best mate went ( picture on the left ) I ve just cried my eyes out reading this and so sorry for you and ms62 , raise a glass and rember the great times you had together
sorry 😞
