Gunshop honesty

That's it! I asked a couple of mates in the area and they've said the same.

If Fleming's actually stocked what I needed I'd use her shop. As it is, I'd rather get in the car and drive from Blair to Dundee than use that w anker in t'other one.
Never tried the one in Dundee, thats the fishing shop on kingsway?? Might give them a try
Its same distance to perth for me so just go to bushwear

Others are proper experienced folk. Best I found in my travels, Greenfields , Ivythorn, Braces and Rigbys
No experience of Rigbys but have first hand experience of Greenfields of Salisbury and have heard good things from people, that know what is good or not, about Ivythorn and Braces.

That's the one. It's worth a look if you're in the town anyway, but if given the choice I'd use Bushwear. The lads there are pretty decent, and the range of kit is really good. Dundee is just handier, and I'm along that way fairly often anyway. Perth would require a special trip

I agree. Bushwear Perth are good people. Good stock too. They fit into my regular pilgrimage which includes Bushwear, House of Bruar (I feel the wife can never have too many dried twigs at £37 a go), and then...the best shop in the whole world...ever...Mecca itself...HIS in Inverness...bliss!!!

House of Bruar

I detest that ruddy place. My wife used to work there in customer services, and I had a couple of weeks in the mail order warehouse at the side of the A9 fillings orders. I can't go anywhere near it now without feeling the joy being sucked from my very soul. Even the thought of that bloody warehouse depresses me. I need to go lie down . . . . .

My bank manager has a lie down whenever he tries to work out how a tartan rug can cost over £200.

how a tartan rug can cost over £200.

Seen the price of the dog beds? And the range of fishing gear (all horrendously-priced?) Walking sticks were £49 each when I worked there, and were actually worth about three quid.

And how can they justify that a dried-out, crap bacon roll costs the thick end of a fiver? The entire place is based on some half-baked tartan-centric 'rob-the-tourist' business model. Half the stock comes from bloody China, and the other half from the Middle East. They pay minimum wage to all their staff, tear the backside out of the price of everything, and wrap it all up in a sickly-sweet package that's cynically designed to separate people from their money by exploiting the 'Scottishness' of it all. Place makes me sick, it really does. It's a perfect example of the worst of UK business models. And entirely appropriate that it should be in a thread with 'Dishonesty' as it's main subject.

'Family business' my arse. I despise all it stands for

As in all walks of life, you get the good, bad and the ugly. Had great service recently from Jonny @ Botley Mills gun shop in Hants and Ed @ Edinburgh Rifles. Aside from that, very mixed and locally in Hants - quite shocking! Greenfields across the border in Wilts was always good. Sporting Services - Graham Clark -near Gatwick is a super guy and very helpful.

Hi.
I do not wish to jump to conclusions but reading between the lines I take it you are not a fan then?

Nothing wrong with being Scottish, nor being proud of that fact. But neither that, nor being located at Blair Atholl justifies charging a the thick end of a fiver for a bacon roll.

Norman Clements at Countrywear, Ballater will hopefully be re-opening soon after the shop is finally repaired following 'the' flood. Used to keep decent stocks. Nice ride over too.

Get yourself up the road a bit to Gregor MacLeods in Tain. Not just the wee "toy shop" at the front - get yourself round into the main gunroom - bliss!

It is many many years since I was last in MacLeods. Consider it on the list for the next trip!

I'm not spreading my business around as much as I used to as Tam the Gun in Inverness is so convenient and 'open all hours'. How many other RFDs can you text at 10pm and ask to pop by for a box of ammo?

Kind regards,

Carl

I was at the last CLA gme fair at Leeds and overheard a guy say, "But I've heard Hatsan shotguns aren't well put together, poor metal to wood finish." The salesman asked what he wanted to dowith it and when the guy replied "Just carry it in the tractor for vermin" the salesman replied "They leave the gaps like that so the dust in your tractor will get in and more importantly out of the gun!!!"
