I had to take little Trigger my old teckel for his last trip yesterday. Little lad had been on the slow down for a year or two, but always seemed happy enough even when he was spending 90% of his time sleeping. He couldn't manage a walk with the others any more, but used to like a potter about in the garden and would find himself a sunny spot to lie down. Loved a cuddle in your lap.
I woke up a couple of days ago and he didn't want to get up. I convinced him and coaxed him, but he wouldn't eat any breakfast and struggled to settle down again. Gave him an anti-inflammatory and he improved a bit, but still seemed unsure of himself and restless. He did eat his dinner and settled on the sofa with his little buddy at bedtime.
The next morning he was worse than the previous, and we had to make the call.
First of my "own" dogs I've lost. Bloody heartbreaking.
