Hardox target punishment

Hello all
I'm not posting this to gripe at what's happened to my Hardox target , I've only posted to show people the punishment and abuse these targets can withstand.

In the picture is my 12yr old Hardox fox target this has been hit many many times, if I was to put a number on it I'd say 1500--1700 times.

Calibres used on the target .204 , .223 ,243 , 6.5CM ,7mm-08 & .308 .At ranges of 100--300m.

As you can see in the picture is the bow caused by the impacts of the hits, I have shot the reverse of the target, but this has still happened .

I measured the bow and its15mm at the deepest .The target has always been free hanging ,with a slight down slant to deflect splatter downwards.

I have always considered my Hardox targets to be a consumable / perishable part of my shooting , and something that will wear out .

So apart from the bow in the target , there is a hole from where a round punched through and a crack between its ears from head shot hits.

The red dots on the target are just aiming points . My .204 is the most damaging to Hardox and speed kills .

I've treated myself to a new reactive fox target ,that hasn't been christened yet. So this is just a quick few lines of something different for people to see.

Have a MOD falling plate its had many 100's its the same plate I used in the 70's on a range in Essex! and I liberated it 10 yrs ago 🙄 i'v shot a few more 100 at it ! but the other week I used it for 300prc they holed it like it was butter 🥲 . Will have it refaced with 1" hardox that should keep it going for another 40yrs lol.

Is the New target a Tom's target? I have one that is slowly making it's way to me (long story). I have also found that within 150m that my 17 Rem and 6BR mark the AR500 targets more than 6.5x55 and 308w.

1" / 25mm Hardox that should be able to take some punishment , I wouldn't want to carry that far

No this is from the Steel Target Company

I do have a reactive Tom Target which is great , but for me this type is better with the base / leg system that can raise the target and what appears to be a better retainer on the reaction plate .

Had one of toms 2" gold gongs for tight shooting ! shot it with the .270 once it was bolted on a chain bolted to my target frame ! one shot i'v never found or seen it again !

What's amazes me is the punishment the target has withstood , the bow in it looks like I've been using it as an anvil

I’ve got your new type of Fox Target and it’s withstood everything I’ve thrown at it so far! 223, 308, 7x57, 7mm Swiss, 8mm Mauser, 270, 243, 45-70, all at 100m.

The legs and paddles work well so once it’s set up your ready to go without trips back and forth to pick it back up etc.

I’ve just bought a selection of gongs and hangers from them as they’re in the same village as me, which is handy!

One of the reasons I like reactive targets is to check zero on the TI as well . I warm up the ringer plate and you get a nice consistent heat sorce and can hear hits and see if youve missed by the splash on the target body.

i christened the new target and checked zero on the 204 this morning . I was impressed with the two target hole sizes (75mm body & expecially the 50mm head )

All the ring plates gave good solid noise returns when hit that you can easily distinguish from hitting the main target .

I have one of those and a full size roe deer hardox but one of my so called friends thought it'd be fun to shoot my reactive foxy with full metal jacket rounds and he ain't my friend anymore 😉

Hardox comes in different grades of hardness , that said what is likely occurring is stress hardening ( work hardening ) from many, many strikes . Personally with most CF rifles i wouldn't want to hit steel at much under 300 yards

I put a few .308 FMJ tracer into a gong and regretted it somewhat afterwards.

Many many shots have been fired into my hardox targets at sub 100m using standard deer ammo with zero issues of damage until my numpty mate issue..

Was stating facts without full data of course. velocity at 100 , 200 wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't at 300 though. Bullet type, construction etc would be , likewise which hardox product as its available in different steel grades and thicknesses .

You usually get what you pay for my reactive foxy was £150 and the full size roe was also £150 but that was several years ago both plasma cut by a local welder with a reputation to keep 👍
