Heads up....ultra lightweight mod.

Having just assembled a long range target and vermin control outfit, I wanted to keep weight to a minimum as the rifle's already heavy enough (although it hides the weight well and handles well, no point in screwing a 1 lb mod to the end of the barrel!). It was recommended that I try the Aimsport Aimzonic Triton mod, which uses high quality stainless internals with a very lightweight hard anodised body...total mass is just 210g!

These come with a full 5 year no quibble warranty irrespective of how much you shoot out of them. Price is £230 and all you do is buy the one mod and use a thread specific adaptor so that you can use the mod across all your rifles if they're of a similar calibre (ie up to the cal of the mod).

Got to say I'm chuffed to bits and wish I'd known about these before buying the much heavier SL5 mods for my main stalking rifles! Sound moderation is avery reasonable 25 to 30db depending on model and calibre of rifle. There is a quieter one still called the "Sneezer" which is still featherweight but adds a little more length. I've stuck with the standard one as it's very compact.

It's less than 11cm, making it extremely compact. Surprised that more stalkers aren't using them.

I have one on my .222 and after a rethread I now use it on my 243 (it's up to 6.5mm). So much lighter than the P8 that was on there before and doesn't sound any different.

Yes

having used (not owned the DPT) and "heard" both of them, I'd say on a par with in terms of noise reduction, about the same length, slightly wider diameter but lighter by several ounces and no need to buy the extra thin walled S/S baffles that you're wise to with the DPT mods. The design is different. The Aimzonic uses a longitudinal S/S baffle design a la a motorbike type with side openings into a large expansion chamber making for a durable and efficient design which partly explains the weight savings. As the mod is screwed on, this baffle come up against the crown effecting a seal and avoiding the traditional gap and gas jetting which causes more traditional designs to burn through more quickly hence the 5 year warranty. Personally, I think it betters the DPT design for less money and I'm a fan of DPT mods! The SL5s I use are built like brick out houses and will likely be going after the barrels are shot out but they're almost 3 times the weight! I'm now a convert to the Triton mods for field use. Mine came from Dauntsey but there's no doubt other outlets selling them.

Thanks Scotty. I was lucky enough to find the only 24 inch barrelled 6.5 CM Tikka Tac A1 within miles of me, so didn't deliberate for too long! My T3 Varmint in 308 is a tack driver, and some of the improvements on the T3x Tac model elevate it into another league. Lovely smooth teflon coated bolt, 10 shot double stack metal mag and really nice build quality set it apart from all the other "Blacktical" rifles out there. It may not be a true "in line" design like the RPR but it is better finished and better handling. One in 260 Rem recently won a 600m comp at Bisley so out of the box, these Tikkas perform. Ideal as a field rifle for (dare I say longer range) vermin control (not really a stalking rifle unless you're built like Geoff Capes or can extract your deer using a quadbike or 4 x 4) especially with the flyye single point sling and the stock folded which makes lugging it about surprisingly comfortable (then again my main stalking rifle's 12lbs!).

Sort of but not quite. The S/S internals appear to be machined from one lump of stainless rather than punched or pressed and there's several swirl/expansion chambers with the initial lead in via the protruding S/S inlet. I've tried to capture this on one of the photos below. Shown with and without thread adaptor (also very nicely machined solid S/S):

Admittedly, it's not a stalking rifle but that's not it's purpose (as stated in the opening post). I can understand why some dislike "blacktical" styled rifles, but they're great to shoot prone for target and vermin control. I will take this one into the field as with the single point sling, and the stock folded, it makes for a very compact and surprisingly comfortable carry despite the mass It allows it to be carried to the side, at waist level with one hand on the pistol grip and muzzle down.
