Heating my car when sleeping overnight.

A very high percentage of ,stuff, may have another makers name on it but is made in china….. or its components are! if you used nothing from there you would own next to nothing.
I wholeheartedly agree, but there are a multitude of places out there knocking 'stuff' up. I could also knock one up in my shed and call it 'Made in England', doesn't make it any good.

When I was restoring cars and converting vans the phrase 'buy cheap, buy twice' always came up, it generally rang true.

Material quality, manufacturing quality, labour quality etc etc after all China is a big place, there's not only one factory out there.

Condensation, crack window or as mine is an old defender 90, there are plenty of drafts.
Make sure the CO alarm is up near the ceiling and def keep a window cracked open, that will also help removing CO.

I have had one of the Chinese heaters running for about a year now, in a shed rather than a car, and it works extremely well and is very efficient plus I've had no problems to date and it was inexpensive to buy. It produces great heat, will run on home heating oil to further reduce running costs, and is simple to install and use. There is a carbon monoxide alarm beside it just in case and it has never displayed anything other than 0ppm. In truth these heaters are so simple that it is beyond belief that some will charge well over £1k for them. The parts from the "premium" manufacturers fit on the Chinese versions so I have to suspect that there isn't a huge difference between them. This bloke has an excellent series of videos examining every detail of them should you be interested:

Got one in my van and know loads of other blokes with 100 notes chinese heaters fitted in there vans ,boats and caravans etc who have had them.in for 5 years or more .

Ive been kipping in my trucks in an artic sleeping bag for years . But the heater is a game changer . Dries my wet kit / boots overnight . Ticking along set at 18 degrees

If it dies in 5 years I'll buy another one. Simple to fit and replace once the split charge system is in place 👌mine gets used prob 15 days a year over winter .if it was in full time use ( if I was a truck driver) I'd buy a webasto . But for part time winter use . The Chinese one is fit for purpose

like you we have one in the camper, in fact used it last night, the only problem is it draws a lot of power, I have a separate battery for the heater and back of the camper,
they draw combustion air and exhaust from outside, the cabin air comes from inside, unless something mechanically damages it nothing to go wrong, but we still have a carbon monoxide detector.

3 pages and 3 good suggestions.
For those suggesting electric blankets and heated jackets. Already there. Been using them for over 20 years. The jacket, not the blanket. I have posted plenty on here promoting heated clothing.

For the suggestions ref sleeping bags and hats and hot water bottles. Please reread the first paragraph, then go spank yourselves with soggy toilet paper.

I like the idea of the heater as suggested by freight dog 600w 12v would I believe more than cover me. I use 400 watts in my office and that has to be 4 times the size. Sounds like 50 amps? Electrickery is not my strong point so I would pass that over to an electrical friend.
and thank you jthyttin about the generator info. I will need to do some more reading up. I don’t want to get a big generator. I was thinking one of those small one they use on stalls. Maybe 1kw?

Using the generator with a lead, I could put far enough away not to worry about fumes. Getting a very quiet generator The heater attached into a box would be really useful as it could be used elsewhere as well, like in my fox box, which I am apparently going to lose because the couple have decided after 38 years to split up. Even more annoying I just built a folding bed into the fox box. Infuriating and selfish of them.
