Afternoon everyone

Has anybody had much experience with the ammunition above?

I’ve been using them for around 12 months now as I swapped back to lead ammunition from copper and I’m getting a lot of bruising and some times exit holes big enough to put your fist through. I shot a fallow doe this morning at 137 yards perfect heart shot and the exit wound was fist sized again. Has anyone else had the same problems? With the same calibre or different calibre? I want to stick to lead as I have no reason at the minute to shoot copper.

Has anyone got any suggestions for other ammunition that doesn’t make as much mess?

Thanks 308 sako

I would suggest having a look at Hornady Interlock 150gr, spire point, flat base (manufacturers code 3031) for accurate bullets that expand well and don't ruin the deer.

*I need to read the question - ammunition not bullets!

Try Hornady White Tail 150gr, which has the above bullets loaded. They are accurate, well priced and reliable.

Use to use SSTs ( hornady superformance) said they were doing 3,000 fps on the box. On the odd one that I butchered due to poor bullet placement there was allot of damage, but I would rather that than lose a beast. Most were head or neck shot for that they were perfect.

The super shock tip ammo is doing exactly what it was designed to, however a lot of feedback for SST reports excessive damage. You have a wide range of ammunition to use in .308 that uses a more traditional lead bullet that is not as fragile, Remington, Norma, federal, PPU and so many more.

Personally for woodland use I like a bullet with rapid expansion, shot placement remains key for me over ammo type.

I only use Hornady SST Superperformance for long range shooting 200-300 yards for fallow and reds. Otherwise too fast for closer shots and make too much damage if chest-shot.

As mentioned above, Hornady Whitetail with interlock bullet is quite good and works very well with all species with minimal damage.

I shot 2 large reds on last Friday with Hornady Whitetails in chest at 210 meters and both dropped within 10 yards. Everyone including game dealer is amazed with cleanliness of the carcasses even though they are chest shot.

I've used the Superformance variety in .308 in the past - it's very accurate for me and makes good velocity. Really does kill things convincingly but not always in a way you'd like! Somewhere I have a picture of a roe where the heart was pulled fully out of the exit wound - the animal fell on the entry side and its heart was just laying on its opposite flank. Mental.

You say you have no reason to change from lead again, but doing so is potentially one answer to your problem (if you avoid the fragmenting varieties). The 130gr Fox works. Otherwise, a bonded bullet, as above.
