I have been looking at the new made kaps 8x56 scopes online and iam wondering what peoples opinions are on it? i currently have a Zeiss diatal on my 222 and a S&B 2.5-10x56 on my 6.5x55. The S&B is a disappointment, in low light i get a white haze that moves around depending on where i point the rifle.

Iam wondering if i would Make a good choise by ordering The kaps 8x56. They are quite cheap compared to S&B or zeiss.

Surprised that the s+b isn't up to scratch. My 8x56 is clear as a bell would have thought there equal to the kaps and similar price. Have a look at the gpo 7.5 x 50 also.

me too, expected it to be great and in daylight it is. but that weird white haze at dusk is a problem.

Might it be broken? Have you got a mate who has something similar you could try it against. Or send it off for servicing?
i read its common on The klassik variables. something about light bouncing in the scope when the sun is setting. But it could be broken sure. not sure what exactly would be broken on it tho. it tracks well, lenses look good, holds zero. its definitely not internal fog. It seems to be a light thing.

I've had a karl kaps on my r8 .243 for 10years now and never had to adjust it a single click great at low light i head shot two prickets on Saturday morning with it I would recommend one but s&b are also great scopes

No idea what might be causing the white haze but inability to gain a crisp image could be down to a lack of parallax adjustment when viewing something below the factory setting of 100-yards. Particularly noticeable at the higher end of magnification and compounded if you're of a certain age with corresponding deteriorating 👀!

iam familiar with paralax. Iam comparing it to a Zeiss from the 80s, and that one looks clearer at any distance and never gives me that white haze. The haze seems to only happen right after the sun sets and gets worse the darker it gets. The zeiss just gets darker and darker but never looks hazy or unfocussed.

so compared to a Zeiss diatal from 1984 i can say at least my S&B klassik has bad paralax and from some more research i did today kinda bad coatings.

seems like that haze is called whiteout and its from lens coatings not adequately dealing with certain light waves at dusk. Something the Zeiss T* coating is clearly capable of

trying the schmidt and bender on a sunny day reveals the issue even more. Its so bright that a black on white target is invisible behind the overwhelming blinding white. It could just be my eye, but no S&B klassiks anymore for me, il stick with Zeiss, and maybe kaps. I think il order the kaps fixed 8x56 or 6x42 with a 1 reticle and see how that glass treats me.
