How many of you play guitar?

Just out of interest how many of you members play the guitar? I used to play quite a lot but gave up about 12 or more years ago. However I have decided to start again to fill my time and keep my fingers moving. I have just got hold of a nice electro acoustic guitar at the right sort of price and started trying to get back into playing. After about three hours of practice yesterday my finger tips are a little tender today, but that's all a part of getting back into guitar work!
My aim is to get back into playing country gospel, country and western and irish folk songs!
How many of you play and what sort of music do you favour playing?
Edit: Just to add: My brother in law who only lives about two miles from me plays blues and rock so we are likely to get together and I might try a bit of blues!

Played from an early age, never to any great standard. Let it slip for many years in early twenties as doing a lot of DJ'ing.
My wife also plays and sings (at the same time , damn those multitasking females), so it's often the case I'd listen to her rather than make an unholy racket myself.
Now realised I miss playing badly and am getting going again.
Play both accoustic and electric, and despite being an ageing git, really want a seven string electric to play the more modern progressive/prog metal stuff.

Ragtime and Folk.

At our peak we could listen to a new Ralph Mctell album and make a half decent stab at any of the new songs. But then my mate moved away, he was the one that could sing in tune and he has carried on playing...I gradually tapered off.

My Japanese Martin copy Jumbo sat in a corner for a few decades and the neck went 4 or five years ago...I finally got around to having it repaired and it came back early last year...lovely! I had sore fingers for a few weeks...but again it is now gathering dust. :(

Used to play a bit, but I learned (or tried to) as an adult when I'd already learned to read music on the piano. And as a result I struggle to find my way around the fret board because my brain wants to see it like a keyboard, but it doesn't work like that.

My finger-picking play was quite good and oddly, I found it easier than strumming. Maybe I should take it up again too.

Yep, play acoustic and sing. Taylor and an old Epiphone. I try to do them justice and frequently fail :banghead:

Yes, played since a child. Write, toured and recorded over the years. Sold my road rig probably 15 years ago and now just play for pleasure but still get roped into a live set from time to time. Still pick up an electric but mostly these days it's acoustic. My wife says I have way too many guitars which is frankly ridiculous. Mind you, she says that about rifles as well.

Son plays most ,Drum ,piano , bass ,Acoustic and Electric, and Melodica Gorillaz fan lol ! last one cost me a few bob a Fender Jazz master Mexican he's now looking for a Taylor med body Acoustic to take to Music Uni .

Played since a boy at school.. in many bands too. Used to play around the north west with a blues band for around 12 years, but gave up ten years ago after surgery. The amp (Mesa Maverick 2 x 12) was too heavy for me to deal with. Now I just doodle at home to keep my fingers moving using both acoustic & PRS Custom 24 through either a Fender Blues de-luxe or Mesa Boogie Subway.
Mostly Gary Moore, SR Vaughan, Jeff Healey, Santana, Pink Floyd + other stuff. Didn't do lead guitar much, mostly backing.Guitars 3 004.webpGretsch Duo Jet 004.webpPRS Custom 24 4.webp

Yup

HEAVY METAL

Bass and rhythm guitar. I leave the lead to my son, who also plays both bass and any kind of guitar you like. Wife sings, sways hips. Other son plays drums. We make an unholy racket.

This year my two boys are both in the same high school for the first time and they have a fantastic school band now! Rockin’ !!!

Great there are so many guitarists around. I've been playing for over 40yrs. In one or two bands over the years. Now just for my own entertainment and occasionally in the pub or impromptu parties.

Nope.
Despite coming from a musical family, and having a musically gifted son, the best I can do is a wheezy rendition of "what shall we do with the drunken sailor?" on the accordian.
Somehow all the musical talent in the family passed me by.

Did it really pas you by or could it be that you just didn't try? ;)
Take care and stay safe mate!

I learned relatively late in life that I haven't got a musical brain. My Dad was a concert standard pianist so naturally I took to playing as well as I grew up with the sound of piano music and there was always a piano in the house. I was quite good but always hit a brick wall. Same with the guitar.
I'm naturally dexterous and good with my hands, so I can master set piece twiddly bits but I always fall down on rhythm and timing.
That probably explains why I find pick-picking easier than strumming.

I was quite a good trumpeter when I was about ten. I wish I'd kept that up but I used to keep blowing my ear drums.

I tried, I really did! Had music lessons for years. Pretty much tone deaf though. I just can't hear whether what I'm playing is correct. It all just sounds like a jumbled up noise. I don't get any pleasure out of listening to music either, although I enjoy watching people perform. To me, the music is very much secondary to the performance.
