How often do you clean your barrel?

Only when accuracy drops off - Sure I'm shooting one shot a week at a push - I feel this more related to range work? While stalking, a group could open up to the size of an orange and I probably wouldn't notice once the deer is on the ground

Let me explain further...if I miss what I would consider to be a straight forward shot and can't explain why the shot missed I may then investigate.

Check my zero first...did the rifle take a whack & zero is off for example.

Owing an ethical kill to our chosen query is paramount after safety so why wouldn't a shooter check his zero?

Some check zero before each and every outing and therefore perhaps noticing their rifles accuracy is opening up. Not just necessarily target shooting 😉

Most of my rifles get a Boresnake with a squirt of Brunox on the snake as and when required.

The odd one out is my K31 that gets a brush pushed through the hot bore covered in Waffenfett grease. It must work as the bore on my 1943 rifle is mint.

I need to find some sort of alternative to it or drop lucky and find somemore.

The range of answers here is wild. Here's my gripes with all of them and hopefully somebody can set me straight

There doesn't seem to be a standard method of madness to it.
No, you have a perfect grasp of the situation.

There are a wide range of answers 'cos few people can see what the effects are so they are blind to the results until/unless something bad happens. Bore is not pretty but how does it shoot? So do we care? Should we care? The world seems to go round just fine without a common approach. If all the barrels stopped shooting after a week there would be a standard approach v quick.
