Yep - apparently it makes it easier to extract the shaft from the hunter’s throat…..Boar spears usually include some kind of crossguard in either the blade or the shaft.

Ouch.
Of course you could always hide behind a nearby gate…… Oh! Wait a minute…Ouch.
See #25 above - this is how it happened…I think this guy wished he had invested in the Kevlar lined boar trousers. It does illustrate how much damage in a few seconds a boar can inflict
People forget how dangerous deer can be here too, I sort of agree with the americans in that aspect with bow hunting being 30 minutes minimum I think people in this country are a bit quick to approaching deer, Obviously we use rifles so there a tad more deadly but if your ever unsure of the shot WAIT! assuming the deer Is within sights its scary how still they can be whilst alive. So hardly surprising that for most British hunters, where the most dangerous part of a driven shoot is possibly getting scratched by an irate phaesant, or more likely to suffer a thumping hangover, there is absolutely no comprehension that something like a wild boar can be bloody dangerous and kill.
Not been had that badly yet in 35 years of farming them. One of our domestic boars did this a few years ago in a single swipe past a pig board. I wouldn't want to face a determined attack.

When I was in hospital 50+ years ago the man in the next bed had been judging pigs when a sow ripped open his bum cheek. That incident left a last impression on him in several different ways. Not been had that badly yet in 35 years of farming them.
But,l have had to hold a couple of wounds together for other people.
Mostly l have had sows bite me and the crush pressure from that is...character building.
With less than comfortable puncture wounds.
Feet, hands, arms and one picked me off the ground by my right bum cheek.
Which bruised to a fetching purple colour.
No picture!!
Not one to forget l reckon. When I was in hospital 50+ years ago the man in the next bed had been judging pigs when a sow ripped open his bumper cheek. That incident left a last impression on him in several different ways.
Back in the 60s I worked on a small family farm, mainly dairy but we kept haft a dozen sows in pig sties. They were partly constructed of very heavy gauge corrugated metal sheet that was substantially heavy than the stuff you see today. It amazed me how a sow could peel that back once they could get their snouts under the edge. Amazing how fast a big sow can move when they want to.Not one to forget l reckon.
Ouch.
The one that bit me had right of the ground.
Strong as hell those girls.
Did he mention if the Sow got a rosette? When I was in hospital 50+ years ago the man in the next bed had been judging pigs when a sow ripped open his bum cheek. That incident left a last impression on him in several different ways.
I do remember that he had a inflatable rubber ring, a bit like a inner tube, that he used so he could sit comfortably in bed. We never made fun of the poor chap, honestly we didn'tDid he mention if the Sow got a rosette?
