if not a truck , which 4x4 ?

Well this is going to pi55 some peeps off but I’ve been driving (everywhere) a 94 def 90 on aggressive tyres, howls like a small plane taking off on tarmac but never, ever got stuck even in 18” of shite, it was coming in the door shuts lol.
Costs me about £200 a year on bits, I can live with that, and was actually cleaner on emissisions than my Freelander 2 road car.
Needed a rear crossmember couple of years ago but all good apart from that... AND now worth more than I paid for it 20 yrs ago.

WB
Try doing 50k miles a year in it with the costs, company car tax (obviously not but the OP’s car will be) and the fact it will literally rattle you to death over those miles.

Surprised no one has mentioned Volvo XC90 (2005 - 2011), I know they can be costly on suspension repairs but aside from that I’ve heard they’re solid??

I really don’t like the interior though, specifically the dash and centre console…

Would love to hear some thoughts on this

Expensive to fix. Are they still using Renault engines? Pal just bought a 2nd hand one with 40k on the clock from the dominant dealer in Cambridge. He threw it back a week later. Riddled with problems - technician he bumped into said he did the right thing!!

Would that be the utter scumbags Marshall’s ?

Hard to beat the old landcruiser 80, 300tdi defenders or hi lux. Any safari or 3rd world country always has one due the off-road and reliability and robustness. Got a 300tdi and a couple of new disco’s and old defender is bulletproof

Do it once. Do it right. Large dog crate in the boot with the seats up and still plenty of space for a couple of fallow/multiple roe.

Are those Duratrac tyres?

I remember going up to Suffolk to assist a friend of a friend with a collaborative cull weekend & one of the older guys there, a St. Hubert Club member, had one of the new Discovery 4s that must have cost him a few quid going by the badge on it, leather seats, etc. it was fitted with a winch in the front & some decent off road tyres. When he came back from a morning session he had two fallow in the back… the seats were down & he had some old cheap plastic tarps & some old blood soaked carpet in there 😳 What a fcuking state it was in inside & so much for carcass handling & cross contamination!

Regular oil changes?

If you want rid of it I've got a donor 3.6 TDV8 waiting for mine if it goes bang.

Currently on 235k miles....
Who would you get to do the transplant out of interest? I love my D4 & have had it so long that I think it’s going to get run until it dies now. A TdV8 would be a great second wind for it if the time ever came 👍
