Hello,

I have joined the forum, after excellent advice to do so, as i am very interested in getting a Bavarian Mountain Hound puppy as our family pet. I am aware there are many knowledgeable people on this site and any information and breeder recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks

With so many dog breeds suitable as family pets why choose a dog primarily bred for hunting and tracking, and then deny it the opportunity.
unless you intend to take up hunting it in the manner it was bred and developed for. Bavarian Mountain Hound - Wikipedia
I'm sure our resident BMH owners and workers will be along shortly.
with hopefully suitable advice.

But why not?
Labs are primarily gun dogs but many are simply pets. Same with spaniels, but with added chaos.!

Not really and intro, more of a request really.
Having had 2 BMH dogs I would not advise to keep them as just pets. They are very loyal dogs, but without the appropriate work they get bored. They need plenty of exercise and work. They also can be very destructive as young dogs, so I would be careful keeping them in doors and leaving them alone.

Please make an appropriate intro.

My BMH, now 6, has mainly been a pet but has been out with me for recreational stalks whenever possible. We have long walks every day, plenty of scent keeps his nose to the ground, he's a great companion.
He is very protective and alert round the farm, never really wanders to far from the yard and gets on well with my lab, my Jack Russel and any other mates' dogs I might be dog sitting.
Let us know if you get one.

Welcome to the site, another example of a non introduction, getting fed up with them will start culling soon.

John
