Hi,

I've been interested in deer for circa 4 years, I find them intriguing, their size, senses, ilussiveness, rutting behaviour. My interest was triggered when taking long walks early morning before work in and around Epping Forest during COVID lockdowns.

Living in London my entire life, it wasn't apparent that deer were hunted or even allowed to be hunted in the UK. So it was surprising to find out deer numbers could be problematic. And that deer are being culled in the forest, which is a 2 minute walk from my house.

I educated myself on the deer species, legislation and best practice, worked on my marksmanship with airrifles in my garden, completed the DSC1 course, begun guided stalks and acquired a FAC. Being a practical person and having a keen interest in researching deer and deer management, I am confident I am ready to acquire my own permission and start harvesting a few deer a month solo.

Only having fallow and muntjac locally. I have a .223 and 6.5mm Creedmoor.

I have printed some business cards to give to farmers/land owners. I am happy to carry out pest control. Ideally to get some permission or join a syndicate locally, so my stalking activities are not such a burden on family time and financially.

There is a deer issue with over population in my local area, however, I feel getting viewed as a asset which can assist with the cull, rather than a client, might be difficult.

Thanks for reading, any thoughts/recommendations/advice are welcomed.

Regards Michael
