ITAR and triggers

Well, my colleague in Texas has feedback from his side, and it's a definite NO to exporting triggers as far as he's concerned.

Apologies I understood the trigger was for a Rem 700 or equivalent clone action
Yes, I have no idea why it cannot be used on a Remmy action. It does say intended weapon platform is Remington clones, as opposed to their other units which say Remington 700. Perhaps bolt release ?

Friend in US sent some fired 22-250 cases, spray lube and some gun (Reading) magazines to SA.
Before they left the US they were confiscated and he got a visit from the actual Feds; who told him the cases were not legal to send as that caliber was once a military cal.
He told ‘em, BS.
They said if he paid x number of $$$ He would get the stuff returned, so he paid.
The box came back and he opened it to find only the gun mags. and spray lube inside.
He paid quite a lot of cash for pretty much no value.
That particular guy doesn’t send stuff abroad anymore.
Ken.

The thing you have to look at with regard to US pricing is that it is not really that cheap.

YOU do not factor in any local City, State or Federal taxes which are only applied at the point of sale. The ticket price is what you see, not what is actually paid.

Add on 30% to a US ticket price is what you will find you pay here (20% VAT on freight, duty and ticket price)

Agree with the above, often find US to be more expensive than European on some items..

As for triggers, they’re not under ITAR rules

As for them not being under ITAR rules, unfortunately I or anyone else can only operate within the advice offered to their counterpart Stateside, and mine was told it's a no.
As Carl mentioned, rules seem to be open to interpretation. Jewell, Timney and Triggertech all replied with a no to selling to an individual outwith the US.
You are correct in saying there are generally little or no savings to be made, although the Jewell stood out, being $185+ sales tax and international shipping (had it been available, versus about £350 over here.

Although that may not be anything to do with ITAR rules. For example, my dispatch pistol is made by Bond Arms and they won't ship anything at all - poncey grips, holsters, other 'non-firearm' accessories - outside of the continental USA because it's too much trouble. So one distributor per overseas country if you're lucky (which for Bond in the UK we are).

There’s a jewel trigger on uk v brand new just gone on the site

No affiliation to vendor

It’s the BR so no safety but that should t be an issue (who relies on safeties )

Thanks for the heads up. If its the same fellow, he did respond to my wanted ad. However, I'd like the safety, as this rifle is my stalker as well as occasional informal target/gong basher.
So, this has all been a desktop excercise. I will now in all likelihood buy a Triggertech from my local shop, the Special which goes down to approx 1lb pull. And likely not spend any more than it would cost me if it had come from US.
