Is this the May 2021 Cochrane review to which you refer: Ivermectin for preventing and treating COVID-19

If so, it is not new work or new revelation. It is merely repetition of the position that Ivermectin trials to date have lacked cohort numbers and rigour associated with drug validation testing [e.g. absence of double blind]:

There is is no new empirical refutation of Ivermectin efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 replication in vivo. This report is just the oft-repeated critique of past trials.

Wisdom says there is enough evidence to warrant appropriately dimensioned mass trials. And I would sign up for that.
 
I thought there was a more recent one showing it doesn't have any real efficacy. It doesn't want to be overused for a marginal gain, it's too valuable for onchocerciasis
 
As much as Invermectin under the right circumstances could work alongside every other potion knocked up let’s not forget people are dying because they are fat, unfit or just plain old. One of them you can’t cure but not seen any major politicians having the balls to say about time people stood up and took charge of their own bodies first and foremost before searching for a miracle cure. Why the global obesity pandemic isn’t front and centre god only knows. Maybe because just about every politician is the living embodiment of the fat cat term.

The stats are that Ivermectin has been in use as an anthelmintic since the 80s with 3.5 billion doses administered over 5 decades.

Has its efficacy in that area of application waned due to that extensive usage?

Also, if Ivermectin is proven to avert death from covid, is that not top-trumps over its use as worm medicine?
 
Not really as it's not been proven.
The recognition of anthelminitc resistance has only really come to the fore in the last 20 years or so, and even know it's uphill work. Resistance exists and the speed of spread is a consequence of use so the more it is used the more resistance will be encountered.

In post #326 I did emphasise the the conditional status by placing the "if" in italics.

That said, there are reputable institutions finding endorsement for the use of Ivermectin from the same data that the Cochrane analysis concludes with "uncertain about the efficacy and safety".

[Note the Cochrane report does not debunk the possibility of efficacy, merely that data so far is insufficient for them to make a pronouncement]

What of the Japanese Journal of Medicine report from Q1 this year? They reviewed the same data Cochrane dismisses and found in favour of Ivermectin usage: http://jja-contents.wdc-jp.com/pdf/JJA74/74-1-open/74-1_44-95.pdf

In particular, any and all safety concerns are proven to be utterly hollow: the doses to date hits that idea out the park.

All Ivermectin safety concern statements I have seen hinge on the fallacious claim that for the drug to be effective, it would have to be at a dangerous dosing level. The FLCCC proven effective dosage is within current anthelmintic dosing guidelines.

Dr Mobeen Sayed. When you google him you find that some search results have been removed and the others are promotions from pseudo scientific conspiracy websites. I think ill reserve judgement on anything he says!
If a Dr goes against the grain of all other Drs and scientists and has a very dubious profile with no legit scientific support then he is probably a snake oil salesman.
 
Ivermectin has been in use for 40 years, extremely well tolerated. Thus hippocratic oath, ‘do no harm’ can be applied when prescribing.

used as anti parastic drug in africa every day (speak to those in Africa...) by hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Lo and behold, those ingesting it *appear* to have a meaningful form of prophylaxis.

Is it coincidental that hydroxychloroquine-also anti parasitical prophylactic also showed significant potential (if also prescribed with ezithromycin-commonly used for respirratory infection, and early - see: Hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin as a treatment of COVID-19: results of an open-label non-randomized clinical trial - PubMed

Not many people are willing to read peer reviewed papers (on any topic) or even promising research. Instead obtaining their medical knowledge from youtube and the 6 o’clock news and of course from an industry which incentivises high profit margin prescriptions...

The press and health department have been very selective about who they show in hospitals. Now they are ramping up the rhetoric about young people being hospitalized. Lets look at the two people that have been on the press in the last couple of days. Both already had medical problems, even without covid. But you wouldn't know that until you see the photos. But the government will gaslight people that are perfectly healthy that died.

The amount of disinformation from both ends of the spectrum is disturbing . Fortunately , there is a lot of solid data out there . I ignore the talking heads and listen to people who do know what they're talking about . Unfortunately , there's still a lot of unknowns in regards to this virus . The amount of politicisation involved certainly doesn't help . As to Big Pharma , no I don't trust them , their greasy track record makes for an unsettling read . I've got both my shots , but I'm not naive enough to believe that the vaccine is 100% safe , no vaccine is . The uncomfortable truth is we are field test with a new treatment , we'll see . The Canadian and Brazilian governments have been working with an already existing drug ( fluvoxamine , an antidepressant ) to help combat the effects of Covid that shows promise , hopefully it works out .

From yesterday’s paper, DTel, p 13, expensive, working in a different way to ivermectin, but on the virus, not protection ones own cells, as the cheaper and safe ivermectin does:

Trump approved - controversial! No mention of manufacturer, short lasting effect, etc. I’ll stick with what I know meantime, thanks.
 
On the long hauler aspect:



Dr mentions the Nobel peace prize but it was the Nobel prize for medicine that was awarded to the two scientists who discovered and developed the Avermectin family of medicines, of which Ivermectin is the common name for the variety most prescribed among humans and animals, in 2015.
