Great service by longstrider, fettled my F1 for me and a old victorinox. Sharp as razors when they came back and took the chips out as well.

Now try to keep the edge

Good to know you're happy with them Stea33.
For a change I did manage to work on the F1 without it 'biting' me. It's always F1's that get me for some reason. Last time one got me it took 3 trips to a surgeon and 6 weeks to get my left index finger working properly again  Sharp knives cut deep ;)
At least it was my left forefinger, so my trigger finger still has fully functional feeling at the tip.

Bump ;)

Very pleased with standard of work and service from longstrider, will lookout another to send in the next couple of weeks :thumb:

Shout out for Longstrider,
just received back four knives which have been sharpened by Longstrider awesome job
so please to have proper sharp knives to use again
i believe he will do one to one teaching, the skill of knife sharpening
when we get back to normal I think it’s something I will sign up to
as I am rubbish at sharpening anything
If you are thinking of using his services I would certainly recommend them
top job ,top service
👍

A great service,

I have just had a knife back from Long strider....... great service and an easy bloke to deal with. Had a phone call from Ian to say it had arrived and then he explained the blade needed some TLC and explained all about the regrinding process, which went straight over my head. After some chuckles he explained what was best for me and the way forward as I can make them dull/blunt however I cannot for the life of me get one sharp!

Ian, I have Just counted my fingers prior to use and can see the plaster that you supplied coming into use very soon, however I may need stitches with how keen the blade is, the knife wasn’t this sharp when I purchased it.

Ian has made me a strop which is coming separately and has explained how to use it to ensure the blade is kept sharp and not in the state it was in. :thumb: :tiphat:

Recommend to everyone. Great service

Cheers
James

Not a service I require, but I can appreciate how many hours of work this must entail.

After watching youtube videos I recently "battoned" my scandi grind Mora using a log through a roe deer hip bone. For anyone thinking about this - don't do it, its a really dumb idea! Buy a saw like I have done! It took me a few evenings of coarse DMT whet-stoning to remove two mm of metal to recover the edge and then another evening going through the various grits and strop.

Yes, I could of bought a new Mora but I like to keep things going.

I use a lanskey on flat grind pocket knives which is much quicker and easier but I don't find flat grind tough enough for deer.

just got a knife back from longstrider. A poor battered old thing which looked like the previous owner had taken an angle grinder to it in attempts to sharpen.
Safe to say, It was as blunt as a spoon and looked a bit like like frankenstein's monster.

Sent it to longstrider and within a week I have it back in my hands, looking much nicer. The edge of that knife is so sharp it seems to have a life of it's own now.

Longstrider warned me to watch my fingers, but i didn't pass the message on to my other half. Safe to say, she doesn't trust my stalking knives any more.

Thank you Longstrider! I couldnt have asked for better service from a nicer guy.

I'm another (well) satisfied customer of Mr longstrider. Knife was sent off and returned all within a few days , Ian kept me imformed that it had turned up with him safely, and what he was doing next , what I needed to do to keep it sharp and when I could expect it back.
I've also taken advantage of his kind offer to supply me with a strop and paste , and even offered advice on how to use it.
I literally could not be happier with the end result, and all for the cost of a takeaway and a few pints .
I absolutely recommend Ian to anyone who struggles to get the very best edge to their working knives.
All the best Gents.
Andy.

As above, sent a knife off with a couple of chips in a scandi ground blade, returned within a week, complete regrind, sharpened and polished to shaving sharp, top job and all my knives will now be done by Ian as and when needed👍

Just a heads-up on this service guys ... After doing this with no problems for over 15 years I have now had the horror of having a knife go missing thanks to the inefficiency of the Post Office. The knife was posted via 1st Class Recorded and was allegedly left at the customers address by the postie (no signature taken, apparently due to Covid ) The chap was out at the time of delivery and now the knife is in the wind. I am in the process of trying to get some recompense from the P.O. but I don't hold out too much hope. The owner of the knife is, thank goodness, happy that I did in fact post the thing and is not directly blaming me for the loss.

As a result, I will now only be using Special Delivery to return knives as this at least ensures that they are insured. I know it ups the cost a little, but I'd hate to have this event repeated.
Thank you.

Ian, I hope that one day you'll have the time to share your regrinding tales and photos of those relics from bygone eras that none of us can bear to part with. Some things just cannot be done at home! :tiphat: Best wishes, Steve

I haven't seen one of those since the 1980s))).webp

Hi Spix .. My old phone doesn't 'do' pictures so I have none to show of the jobs I've done in the past. Suffice to say that I've seen plenty of 'scrap metal' in my time doing this. Some of it was beyond hope and some has been returned as a useable blade.
I do love it when I have to point out that I can't 'grind a bit back on' Some folk seem to think I can, and want a full flat ground blade made into a Scandi grind ...
I've had blades arrive in the post still dripping with gore from the last gralloch. I've worked on a genuine antique Katana that was insured for more than my house cost, and I've sharpened specialist blades for some pretty special 'boys in green/black'.
The best bit is getting to deal with, and occasionally meet with, some great characters over the years.

Just wanted to express and add my thanks to Ian for an exceptional service. He managed to work a miracle and bring back from the brink an abused and treasured knife and made a kydex sheath for another. A truly nice guy to deal with, who I cannot recommend highly enough.

Take care Ian.

Hi there . I've had two parcels go missing in the last 3 to 4 months. One sent to me and one posted by me. Compensation , after all the associated hassle for my one , was six first class stamps ! Royal Mail Special theft squad ! Don't know how the other guy got on yet . My advice is to make the parcel as large as possible within the weight cost of it. Or use another courier

Quick turn around on a reprofile of a very lob sided blade and sharpen for myself. Great service and very knowledgeable when discussion options.
Thanks
