Land Reform and it's Impact On Stalking and the countryside

Its not a surprise really. Having been involved with one or two areas of Scotland where they have purchased the land under the right to buy scheme, they give the money out ok. But the strings attached are a different matter.
I am all for the people of Scotland having their own land when it becomes viable and sensible to do so. But most of the big land owners of Scotland are the ones that employ many people in very rural areas and also can and do contribute to the local community. God help Scotland if they have a government ready to take this away from folk and implement draconian measures.

It will be the end of it all as far as I am concerned. Blimey I sound like the chap off Dads Army...................were all doomed I tell ye all doomed.
Yes, theres probably lots of people that live in Scotland that would like to own 2 or 3 acres but realistically, what are they going to do with it?
They'll start of with big ideas of home produced food or maybe a building plot, then run out of money and then next year your left with 3 acres of brambles and bracken, now not producing any crops/food which makes the country more reliant on foreign countries by importing food.
That land is better staying where it is, on estates or farms, where local people are imployed and know what they are doing.
While im having a rant! The main issue with all this climate change , no housing, no food debate, surely is down to the fact that there are just far too many people in the world! Why are we not trying to reduce the population? Yet you never hear a politician saying that. Why not? Millions of people in some countries starving to death, surely its not rocket science to see what to do to fix the problem! If you were a farmer and had 100 sheep in a field, and half of them starved to death, you wouldn't put a dose more in would you!
Got slightly off topic, rant over, sorry!

This will affect only a tiny number of property transfers in Scotland, breaking up huge estates into smaller tranches.
Even so, 1000 hectares remains a huge chunk of land. Consequently I'm in favour of it, as it's time for a change.
2500 acres isn’t just a massive skelp of land in reality, particularly hill ground. It will turn into a completer cluster of in fighting and financial ruin as has been proven in previous community buyouts.

The reality is lots of these buyouts get into bed with the likes of the RSPB etc with inevitable results.

What it will do is decrease availability of deer stalking through leases and as part of the traditional rural economy.

It’s a socialist’s wet dream

Try feeding your own family on half a dozen acres

Let alone your neighbours or the community

Mugabe tried this - and he started with Rhodesia - the bread basket of Southern Africa

He turned it into a total basket case

I’ve never understood why the Scottish people - with such a proud record of independence - are so enamoured of socialism

Understanding the SNP is really simple. Just use Mugabe’s voice on everything they say and look at the consequences of his actions on what was the breadbasket of Africa.

He came into power in 1982. SNP got power about 15 years ago! :)

Not that I was ever a fan of Margaret Thatcher but I always smile when I hear this quote of hers "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money [to spend]."
Nah. You just sell off Royal Ordnance at Enfield Lock to your cronies for £6m who then close it down and sell off the site for housing development for £36m. Whilst saddling the poor British Army with a sack of cack rifle SA80 and L86 "Light Support Weapon" (made by the then now privatised Royal Ordnance plc) that having charged the taxpayer for handsomely you can then further charge the MoD additional millions to try to fix it. Not fix once as never fail to dip your bread while the gravy is still on the plate (and the taxpayer is paying for it) but twice. The problem with Thatcherism was you eventually run out of profitable enterprises owned by the people as a national asset to sell off to make millions for your cronies in consultancy fees, brokerage charges and "commissions". A gravy train of spivery masquerading as free enterprise.
