Latest on Moderators being removed from FACs

Without referring back to the relevant paragraphs of the Firearms Act it is by no means clear whether you will be able to order a sound moderator remotely without all the bother of face to face transactions.

I would opine that it's fairly clear that it is not possible to buy remote. (Without having it delivered to a local RFD)

The requirements are state that you must still be in possession of the relevant certificate, and therefore significant onus is on the selling party to ensure that is the case. Without F2F or transfer via local RFD who could then ensure that check is made, I don't see many (if any) sellers taking that risk.

Definitely won't be able to order inert metal tubes with baffles in, online. You need to have a license to possess a metal tube with baffles.

It’s just absolutely insane you need a license to own a metal tube with baffles
Is it then insane that you need a license to own a metal tube?

I don’t really see the issue. You own a rifle and thus hold an FAC. This will then allow you to own a moderator. Simple.

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of getting an FAC and want to use firearms then go and join the criminal underworld, or join the military.

Spoke to my GMP FEO last week, she confirmed they're coming off ticket soon and that you'd just need to show a valid FAC to purchase (rather like how you can get a supressed shotty or supressor for a shotty with just an SGC)
No indication from her on what happens with the Moderator slots on our tickets.

Maybe, but how do Just Cartridges manage to sell shotgun cartridges remotely, especially when they use a third party courier? It does indicate that it may be possible?

Because SG cartridges dont require a certificate to own/hold etc, only to purchase. I would imagine the rules on these is laxer due to this?

Perhaps buyers can email/upload a copy of their FAC/SGC to an online seller and this will satisfy the requirements and the mod can be sent in the normal post

In the same way that many websites currently sell air rifle / rimfire mods with the buyer making a simple declaration that “will only be used on a sub 12ft air rifle”

I own guns I have an FAC I have moderators for all my guns but it’s stupid that a metal tube is a licensed product, it’s useless less you have a gun

A barrel is a metal tube is it not? A barrel is pretty useless.
yeh a moderator can’t fire a bullet though can it
Even a Barrel without a bolt could still be Jerry rigged
A moderators a metal tube with no bearing on a bullets ability to fire or travel with accuracy
Flawed logic

A barrel isn’t subject to license controls unless it’s chambered ready for use. Not sure what point you’re trying to make
It’s that everyone is getting their knickers in knot about having to show an FAC to acquire a moderator because its just a piece of metal tube. So too is a barrel - it’s just a piece of metal tube.

Genuinely not trying to invent a problem. Just pointing out that the wording of the bill is problematic.

Yes I'm fine for now, as long as I have my FAC, but my question was once I don't have FAC, but I still have my sub-12 ft/lb air rifle with the SAK mod on it, then I will be in possession of a moderator designed for use on S1 firearms, without an FAC to permit me to own it.

So either .22cal moderators become de facto illegal for use on sub-12 air rifles (unless you happen to also have an FAC fornsomethjng else), or manufacturers will have to start making 'air rifle only' moderators that are not designed for use on a S1 firearm.

That's all now course if I've read the wording correctly, which I may not have, but from what I've seen so far, reading the exact wording (and the law is all about exactly what the wording is!), that's the situation as I see it.

It risks making criminals of 1000's of legitimate air rifle owners who have mods on their rifles, but no FAC.
Just transfer it to yourself as a sub-12 mod, there will be no paperwork to fill in. Once you have got rid of your FAC it will be an air rifle mod.

I could care less about having to show it, but if it’s to become non restricted and no need for variations and such I don’t see why it’s not just fully unlicensed, because from now I’ll be able to leave it lying around the house I believe like shotgun cartridges and it’s lawful free to be knicked

Surely that's identical to the new sound moderator rules, raising a further issue what else does accessories mean? Muzzle brakes? Sling swivels? Mounts? etc.?
