le chamau,worth it or not?

i live in mine literally 24-7 and ive never had a pair let me down like bloomin hunters

if they are loked after they will perform just as well as the old style but then im biased as i am offering them at silly money at the moment

but i can honestly say ive bought other makes and always end up back in my chammies

Owned two pairs of neoprene ones in the past, both lasted a fair time so no complaints. Bought a leather lined pair 4 years ago. After about 18months the heal started to come away letting in water. The shop changed them. This pair are lasting well. What I chould say is that I have them on at least twice but more often than not 3 times every single day I am at home to walk dogs in all weathers through mud, grass and salt covered back roads. I really cannot grumble as they are abused and not treated that often with that spray stuff you get, although the zips get the odd scoosh. I hardly ever have them zipped up unless actually shooting in them.

Personally I would buy another pair...

Leather ones are great!

neoprene very good

I must admit, I started buying Muck boots a couple of years ago. Not the same quality, not as comfy and the soles certainly don't last. If I had never had chammies then I'd probably stick with hem.

i was going to get a new pair of chammy leather zips this year but having second thoughts, if the quality is dropping?

i've found Aigle too thin and cold.

hunters were always over priced and since they are now made in china, build quality is c***.

My wife has Toggi and she loves them , 3rd pair.

in the past I would have one full year out of a pair of Vierzonords and then a burning season. I don't think a pair would ever last me 7 years!

PI might give the Toggi a try if Le Chameu are going down hill?

meant to say my wife has a pair of Aigle Isos (think that is the name) very thick neoprene and very warm, but they do not get abused. They will now though seen as my 11 year old lad now fits a size 5!

Have had the old leather Chammy's in the past and had seven years out them, the latest pair have only had about four years and they are now leaking to point that i cant wear them, had thought about Muck Boots as i see quite a few folks wearing them but if they are not as comfy then may just go for it and buy the chammy's again.

most chamau I've heard problems about have split at the back where heel joins ?

Exactly the same as me....I'm on Aigles (now), with the full zip, 4 years old, warm as toast and i wear them every day in the woods whilst walking the dog, they have also been on numerous shoot days (through thick vegetation), climbed barbed wire fences in them be out in the hill in them and not once have they let me down, just as good as they day i bought them...just a little dirtier.

i have a pair of Jack Pike wellies cost me £30 very comfy and warm enough, must say i'v never found a pair of wellies that actually keep my feet warm.
They'll do for me

I have a pair of chameau wellies with neoprene and tightening straps on the side (top), I must say they are very warm and I have better foothold without making 'wellie-noises' when I'm out stalking, so yes, IMHO, very much worth their extra cost. this is compared to all my previous wellies which have all been cheap - I'm not going back to cheap having tried these, unless it's for 'farm work' purposes (sorry, couldn't think of another term to use).

Well I've had a pair of Chameau for the last 7 or 8 years , loved them. Tried and tried to get the same replacement to find they only do the same ones in France now !
So last week I invested in a pair of Dunlops for £9.99 and they fit perfectly - - isn't life grand?

My Chameau Chasseurs (The "saw you coming" Leather ones.) Very comfortable, dry and warm they are. Quality "Meh!"

First set went back after the zip tabs broke. They tried to palm me off with a bit of metal bashed over as a quality repair. After the shop I bought them in remonstrated (I was a gooood customer) they agreed to replace them but I had been without a month. Never did get my welly boot bag back either.

Second set both zip tabs broke and as the year was up I replaced them with key rings which were much better to pull up the stiff zips. However one side then pulled completely off. Soon after the rubber fold over tab now taking my calf strain without the zip failed. I still wear them but they flap about and look odd. My sheep dont care.

They are YKK zips. I cant tell you why they have failed but I wouldnt touch this brand again. Being out of warranty and me being British I didnt complain further but I bitch and moan to anyone who will listen.

If a representitive of Le Chameau spots this and wants to make me feel different then please let me know.

Now this is a quality repair...yet another use for bailer twine

In edit: The best wellies I've ever owned. The neoprene lined ones I use for winter and these the rest of the time. Both are 5-6 years old and, other than a bit of wear from heels going in and out and the leather insole on the leather lined ones having to be reglued in place, they are still in good order.

Complained to Aigle via email about my split wellies on Monday this week. Haven't even had a reply yet.

It would appear that the customer service is about the same quality as their wellies are.

My neoprene Chameaus are now in there 8th year and going well soal now a bit thin so I will replace this year. Never liked the leather ones.

I had a new set of the neoprene zipped. They lasted three months before complete failure. That was this summer.

My unzipped set are 16 yrs old and still going strong!

Had bought mine and my wifes leather chammys from a game fair at half price seconds circa 100 quid per pair both have been going 15 years and now the surfaces are showing small cracking but they are still waterproof.
Cannot complain really.
