Am looking for recommendations for a light weight bipod for a 243.

All the estate rifle have used carried v heavy bipods and spoiled the balance of the out fit

What bipods have you used that are too heavy and what you looking to spend?

Harris do an Ultralight line of their bipods. Still probably twice the weight of a Javelin. No matter how hard I try, I always wind up putting back on the Harris.

There’s plenty of articles on SD about bipods - the above just 2 of those I have contributed. However, just ask yourself how often you use a bipod. Well over 90% of all animals I take are off sticks.

I started with Harris bipods (as many do) but quickly realised that you are lugging around unnecessary weight on your rifle for rare use. With the Spartan system, the bipod sits in a holster on my bipod pack and just occasionally gets used. However, once you have the adapter on your rifle(s) you can use it with sticks, off the quad, off the bonnet - see my pictures. Moreover, you only need multiple adapters for multiple rifles as with the adapter fitted, the bipod etc can be used with any of them.

None really I am afraid. Depends what you are trying to achieve. There is a bit of a trade off between weight, height and solid rest. I have tried the lightweight stuff (various) which either failed because it would not get me up out the grass/heather or was too shookly for my taste.

I dislike Harris bipods but they are a good compromise between weight, speed, and height for stalking. Your best compromise may lie elsewhere.

Another vote for the Javelin Lite Bipod.

Doesn't cost the earth, super easy to fit and very light. Just pops in and out when needed so doesn't get in the way of using sticks.

I did however have to go back and get the long version as the medium was just too short to comfortably use lying down (and don't forget to put it in your bag on the way out the door!).

I actually liked the neopod. More like a traditional bipod but still a bit short and the spigot flimsy so the lock system galls and becomes less efficient.

Now days there is no bipod when stalking and reply on sticks. When I’m shooting from a vehicle I use a short bipod for when I can shoot off the bonnet. Although a bag works I find the bag needs to be pretty big to get a good position.

Have a look at the Dolphin Ranger bipods as they are a good compromise being well made easy to deploy and fairly lightweight…very stable too

Javelin pro hunt tac, there when you want it.
It does really depend on the type of shooting that you are doing, however these bipods are good enough to get you accurate to 400 + meters

Spartan are developing a couple of new ranges of bipods, one more range orientated, and one fixed hunting style. I’m hoping the fixed one deploys in a similar manner to the Harris, has no pan, just can’t, and has noticed legs, but is designed in a way that it doesn’t dig into your back. Would be the ideal bipod for me.

As you say its balance not total weight ...... Balance it ! Get some weight in the rear end until you get the thing as you want it . Its the same with moderators on that one its best to take some off the barrel and move it back but again weight in the rear works great . On a wood stock you can bore a hole and fill it with some lead shotgun pellets and epoxy . It will make a big difference and reduce felt recoil
