London fireworks

Apparently the fireworks 🎇 in London tonight cost around 2.5 million.

Maybe I'm a grumpy git, but personally I'd have rather they make do with few sparklers & spend that cash on the London homeless 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
2024 is very likely an Election year so you can’t blame the Labour Mayor for making the most of his sky picture themed campaign that rather embarrassingly sought to lecture the electorate c/o every imaginable tick box.

We used to live next to neighbours who were both adults on disability / carer allowance / new mobility car every two years ... but the wife who was allegedly an MS sufferer was on a stick or in a wheelchair coming out the front ... & on a stepladder round the back with the hedge trimmer.
So I agree.

Round here half the people walk with a cane and put on a bit of a limp, then as soon as they get out of sight into their council housing, they skip along with the bag full of shopping from the extremely overpriced corner shop…whose owner is a known drug dealer to the local trailer park as well 😂..amazing how a small town corner shop owner can have a new BMW every month isn’t it?

Not only London.

Sydney consigned the cost of living crisis to history – at least for one night – and welcomed in 2024 with a spectacular $6.2 million bang over the Harbour last night.

On the flip side my mum has MS, her left leg is very weak and she has limited control over it so can't drive a manual car (which is what my tight ass dad owns and won't replace). I've told her time and time again to apply for a motability allowance to either lease an automatic or have money for the bus and taxis when she needs and yet because she can still walk reasonably well she doesn't think she should apply for help 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

The support is there and the criteria is quite clear and obviously some people will take the p1ss but that's because the enforcement isn't in place and people won't do anything about it.

They sold 100 thousand tickets at £20 each so got £2 million of it covered. Mr Khan takes the credit and is unlikely to get any flak about any shortfall.

Ok, should we discuss how much has been spent on flying Channel crossers 1st class to Rwanda up to now, and how many have touched down?

I was thinking the Mayor is concerned about air pollution with his Ulez scheme but happy to contaminate London with green houses gasses and micro plastics to gain a few votes.

Well that was written by someone with no basic understanding of pollution, nor much familiarity with the English language. This sort of nonsense is why environmental activism is so counter-productive.

I can tell you hand on hart, no returnees are flying back 1st class. Most are charter flights anyway.

I can hand on heart say i do not care about this 2.5 million , it‘s a tiny drop in the ocean of wasted money , it’s like the climate ‘crisis’ if you liken it to a bucket with a pin hole in and a 4’’ hole , which hole should you block first to have the most dramatic effect on the water loss

I had a client, once, in France at Giverny on Bastille Day. He was an hereditary British fireworks maker. I recall him remarking in the Giverny display "Cheap Chinese rubbish...". But yes I agree with the fact that these displays are a great waste of money.

good value for money. I do pity all of those poor immigrants who have boated to our shores to escape tyranny only to be woken up from their four-star hotel rooms with all of those bangs. Must have properly kicked off their PTSD. Hopefully, a little more cash will placate them.
