Long range rimfire plinking

I picked up a new Bergara B14R 22LR rifle from C2Precision a couple of weeks ago.

It's intended to mimic my PRS rifle, as a "trainer" and for PRS22 comps. Might get used for the odd rabbit.

Had a chance to stretch its legs. Have to say I'm impressed with it. Bolt closure was a bit stiff/notchy but has been smoothed-out with some gentle fettling and break-in.

Anyone else like to shoot rimfire at "long range"?

22LR is a good training tool, cheap practise but I wouldn't shoot anything living at much more than 125m as beyond that point wind drift really kicks in and the cartridge starts to become ineffective (outside the 'danger space' for a consistent first round hit.)

223 on the otherhand... I'd happily take mine out to 250m, and that's without a fast twist barrel allowing for high BC bullets.

Agree.

My 223's are routinely shot at 500yds (previously 600yds until the CofF was changed in CSR). They are both fast twist barrels shooting 75 and 77gr bullets.

Different league to 22LR.

I do on occasion. 350 is about the limit, as I am using the bottom of the reticule at that distance. Good fun hitting the gong at that range. You can sometimes see the flight of the bullet. Certainly interesting watching the curve against wind and gravity.

Great stuff. I try and shoot the Small Bore Long Range match at Bisley each year - lots of fun.

It's shot at 200 and 300 yds. The come up for a 50 yd zero with .22lr subs is ~60MOA

At about 20 moa per hundred yards (eley club) I needed an adjustable mount to get 400 yards. On a good day, a 10 inch target is great fun and will give you excellent understanding of the wind. Roughly equivalent to the .308 at 1,000 yards. And so cheap to fuel without all the barrel life worries.
Pick up an unloved Anschutz target rifle, add a good scope and you’re ready.

@Dr. Strangelove

Further to our conversation- minor mis-feeds with flat-nose bullets and slightly stiff bolt closure in this vid but otherwise I remain very pleased with the rifle. The oversize mod helps replicate my fullbore set-up.

I picked up a blaser .222 from Loler Uk (absolute gentleman)the other week whilst there I had a session with his R93 in.22lr at 100m, he had it dialled in with eley’s I think, we were hitting an inch gong every time, think I’ll be looking for a .22lr barrel for mine, longest targets I’ve shot at were at 200m , longest rabbit I’ve shot is 143yds, modest for some but quite an achievement for me with a 50 yr old anshutz 1416 that has never been fiddled with.

I occasionally shoot at gongs out to 300m with my Anschutz. My Swarovski 4 - 16 x 50 scope has a TDS-4 reticle which when on 4x gives me an aiming point of 280m. It is almost as much fun as shooting my 270 at 1000m.
