Not sure if this as been covered. I’ve applied for a 6.5 creedmoor for deer stalking I’ve had an open ticket for 6 years biggest cal being a 22-250 they have now asked me to have a mentor why do I need to do it again done it for my first Center fire I’ve got my dsc1 booked for April I’ve told them I won’t be stalking on my own until I’ve passed that all I’ll be do is paid stalking with professional stalkers graining first hand experience. Not sure what to do now my firearms officer as told me to call basc to see what they say. Thanks

That is ridiculous and the fld are wrong. You have an open ticket so must have been happy for them to authorise it. Are they not saying you need a mentor before you're dsc. Again they are wrong if they are. 6.5 222 308 they all do the sane thing so they should not compare the 6.5 22/250 . If you were to challenge them you will clearly come out on top. Someone in that fld had no idea.

I’ve had an open ticket for 6 years

This is a moot point.

There is really no such thing as an 'open ticket'. They can attach different conditions to every firearm on your ticket.

For example (other than zeroing), for use aboard - .416

For example (other than zeroing), for use in (I kid you not) Scotland - .375 (this was randomly changed when my ticket was in for an unconnected variation).

That said.

It is a nonsense in relation to cartridge size.

I note your last post - shooting deer. Get yourself out on a couple of paid stalks. Job done.

They say it’s not because of the larger cal it’s because I’ll be shooting deer because I got no experience doing that.
Is it too late to tell them you have been shooting Muntac with the .22-250, or is this that conditioned for fox only...

Good luck.

Yep agree entirely although:-
“For example (other than zeroing), for use aboard - .416”.
Like for repelling pirates….

Whÿ? Dont you have any Munties on your perms?
You need to get BASC or alike on board.
Also BASC need to know which force is imposing such conditions.

Seems like they are employing complete numpties to "ACT" as FLO / FEO's
"my firearms officer as told me to call basc to see what they say." :-|

Excellent result, I am sure the BASC bashers will be holding their tongues. 👍
