loose bullets quantity on license

I caught this too late to ask the FEO for this weekend. Do the new keep only limits apply to old certs ie those with purchase amounts. My newly open cert was only issued a few weeks ago!

I been to S.Africa for the last three years, on the way up to or back from the reserve we always stop at the P.H.s favourite gun shop for bullets etc., I can buy S.A. manufactured PMP, and Sierra game kings at ridiculously low prices, they don't/wont put them onto my FAC, my last FLO told me to enter them myself, is this correct as I can buy all my needs each year, yet have no records of such purchases. David from BASC, or expert knowledgeable people out there, is this correct as those going to S.A. should make most of the low prices while there. You could end up with the maximum amount by buying whilst out there hunting, or the same way as buying from other overseas dealers. deerwarden

A non expanding bullet / missile is not ammunition until loaded !!

Bertie I know what you are saying is logical but for legal and technical reasons previously gone into at great length by David at BASC for the puposes of the firearms act section 5 bullets (i.e. expanding) is actually called ammunition.

Floyd I see what you mean about the wording on certificates with the all encompassing new wording. The point that I was trying to emphasise for benefit of the original poster and not realised by some, was that expanding bullets regardless of assembled into cartridges or not count towards the allowance. The new wording on certificates appears to state this clearly. It certainly raises an interesting point for consideration for those forces that previously issued certificates that had both an ammunition and a seperate expanding missile limit. Will they now just up the total quantity to be possesed under this new condition?

I agree with your statement. If you read again I said "NON EXPANDING" !

FWIW My buy/hold allowance has always been buy 300 hold 500 for both.223 &.308. There has never been a reference to sect 1 or sect 5 amounts.
They are both conditioned for Target and Deer, Fox and vermin though.

bullets aren't ammunition , ammunition is a complete loaded round fmj and target bulletshave no limits on quantity , only expanding bullets are ( stupidly ) counted the same as complete loaded rounds -- gettit !

That is how it was interpreted, i used to deal with a gunshop in Exeter called Braileys, the owner Doug Brailey would write on the certificate manufactured loaded rounds, but on a point of principal at the time refuse to enter bullet heads of any description, expanding or non-expanding.

Sorry Bertie but I missed the relevant word when reading this early this morning.
I have similar holdings to yourself in several calibres. My force unlike some doesn't give separate holdings for ammunition and expanding missiles but they did previously for a number of years. Also all my rifles are conditioned similar to yours.

Richard I was quite the opposite to you. When my local gun shop was taken over they suddenly started entering bullet purchases on my certificate where as previously they simply made an entry in their register. I objected to this especially as they also entered non expanding bullets. I thought this unnecessary but perhaps now understand that they have now been instructed to do so in the case of expanding bullets by the local firearms department.
