Love it when new members.......

There was a post some time ago about how good a member was based on his post count.
I disagreed profusely because there are one or two that only post a few words agreeing with the above post or maybe as much as three words saying how much they enjoyed the above post.
If members were judged as, good or mediocre, members based on the content or word number of their posts it would be a completely different kettle of fish.
So post count, counts for nothing.

Shamelessly do posts like " nice, good one, sweet.......etc" blatantly to get up to the post limit to advertise.......its quite easy to spot when you look at recent posts and there is a page of monosyllabic responses to old threads.....

just saying.

We've got this covered in the rules (see rule 4)

When we spot it we usually delete all their 'hi' posts and they get to start all over again.

Im a member of a few bike forum's and there are many members with a "high post count" but the content of the posts are worthless (unless anyone likes to read nonesense)

I bet there are many members on this forum that hardly post, but use the forum for information and absolutely nothing wrong with that

Everyone is a "new member" at one point.

.

I love it when "old members" think they own the forum lol.

now? have I rattled a few cages :)

No cage rattled at this end, but I do think you have missed the point of it slightly, I quite agree not everyone feels the need to make their opinions known all the time, and many use these forums as a place to seek advice, but others, join and then their first 30 posts follow the pattern of my first comment, of 'nice, good one, etc' for the simple reason of wanting to use the place as a free advertising platform. If I were alone in thinking this, then admin wouldn't have the policy they have of removing such comments and encouraging constructive input.

I too am involved with bike forums(ran one and now part won one) and I do know where you are coming from but I believe that this thread was initially aimed at one particular poster who banged their post count up to the required 30 posts and then banged a scope and rifle up for sale.
The mods have to run that fine line between stopping members getting a bargain and people taking the p1ss.Very difficult to do but seems to work here until someone tries their luck and suffers

Worse still is the fortunately small number of people who appear to join to have a rant about some goods or stalking that haven't quite met their expectations.

They then disappear shortly afterwards without bothering to share their other experiences of deer, stalking, rifles or the countryside!
