Aktberg and Lowa are great boots. - just thought the Lundhags are a good choice instead of wellies in the Lake DistrictJust go for altbergs...
I got ones too big and heel slipped - hence liking a try on. They did sell them in Keswick but not any more I am afraidWhere are you based? Don’t think there are any stockists currently (actually with stock on the shelf at least).
I bought some from Alipine trek a couple of years ago, I love them, but have often wondered whether I could have got away with a 9.5, the 10’s I have a great but just have always had that niggle, can’t be bothered with the hassle of ordering and returning
I have to say I highly rate mine, I went with the professional high boots, never let a drop in and they support my feet really nicely, I replaced their felt insoles with some decent ones which took up a lot more of the space too, I strongly suspect the next size down would be too small so I’m happy with them. As for altberg that all depends on foot shape and which model, I cannot get on with them at all, yes uk made but I have to say not a patch on the Lundhags for me personally.I got ones too big and heel slipped - hence liking a try on. Have a look at Grisport.I have tried to buy boots on several occasions but no one does a wide fitting, that is properly wide. I ended up contacting Lundhag who got me to measure my feet and draw around them. they were very nice and said they could help but I would have to present my self at the factory and it would take some time as fittings would be needed so im still in wellies.
I have just had a look at their web site and there is a non specific reference to wide fit for some designs. There are non actual widths stated so in my experience there will be a modest difference dictated by using the the standard sole width and will be no where near proper wide, 4E or preferably 6E. Thank you for your suggestionHave a look at Grisport.
I've just killed a pair of Crusaders after 10 years of hard wear.
Replaced them with a pair of their Gamekeeper high leg boots. Hoping they'll see me out
Meidl do different width fittings as well as half sizes, I also have broad feet and tend to find most makes either snug or too big and rarely wide enough, meindl fit me perfectly, other makers who also do a good variation of width are Danner and Matterhorn,I have tried to buy boots on several occasions but no one does a wide fitting, that is properly wide. I have never looked at either Danner or Matterhorn, I will investigate. I end up with too big and clumsy, a supposedly wide fitting has to be one or one and a half sizes too long to be properly wide. It sounds like we have similar issues, another to look at would be Gronell, although they tend to be quite heavyI have never looked at either Danner or Matterhorn, I will investigate. Alt-berg offer a similar ‘bespoke’ service and while it’s not cheap you are looking at boots for life that said, I believe they offer a number of widths for a number of styles. I’m a great fan but I don’t struggle too much with fit. Might be worth a look.I have tried to buy boots on several occasions but no one does a wide fitting, that is properly wide. I have been down this route and was not impressed with their apparent lack of enthusiasm to help or the £1000.00 plus bill for the first pair including the specialist last making.Alt-berg offer a similar ‘bespoke’ service and while it’s not cheap you are looking at boots for life that said, I believe they offer a number of widths for a number of styles. Probably still a couple of pairs around the house somewhere. One from Caldbeck and one from Girvan Used a lot in a previous life that required a shovelFully sprung fell boots for the Lakes.

For US Danners go up .5 of a size - so a US 11 is 10.5.I have emailed Danner for fitting specifics as the boots would need to come from the US. Trying not to get my hopes up !
