Mauser M18/12 243

I believe they're press fit and the threads you can see through the base mounting holes is just retaining threads...I could be wrong but I'd have do put all my chips on press.

anyone actually asked Mauser/Blaser or tried pulling one?

at the price point they're BBQ cutlery, ie, use them and bin them, zero point even considering a rebarrel.

I think the re-barrel thing is relevant if the action is of high enough quality to deem it worthy, but you'd need to be looking at proper M98's, Sako 75's or L61R's, Win Pre-64's, etc. IMHO.

I purchased an M12 max last year, I wanted a sauer 101 gti and took a trip down to R J Blackwall in Oxford to purchase a new rifle. I held a few and Rupert was absolutely superb. He literally let me customise the rifle in his shop, he had all the parts, even mounted my scope to it, he laid the rifles out on his leather topped display table, let me hold a few, I decided, then he opened up drawers and said what barrell, what bolt etc, I loved that!
I went for a 20" stainless fluted barrel, large teardrop bolt handle, Barton gunworks moderator.
Rifle cost me around £1400 plus extras, all in was about £2000 with swing off scope rings, moderator, ammo, sling etc.
It is a fantastic rifle and probably my favourite (apart from my Tikka 595 in .22-250 which holds many memories for me and was my first centre fire rifle)
The balance is great. I love the palm swell on either side of the grip, this rifle can be used left and right handed. I love the 3 point safety and also being able to operate it with a round chambered. I feel at one with the rifle when mounted in my shoulder, it is so comfortable. Trigger is excellent, accuracy is superb and I really do love it.

I would highly recommend a visit to R J Blackwalls and get kitted out with what you want.

Guy asked me to chrono the speed of two types of factory ammo on his M12 308. Both were at over 70fps spread never saw that with any other of my 308's with the same ammo. Maybe it was because he had well over 1000 rounds down the barrel?? Pity he can't re-barrel.

Personally I think it’s a shame the greatest name in rifle history is now making rifles you can’t rebarrel. There are heaps of reasons why you might want to rebarrel apart from plain shooting them out (which is very possible with pro shooters using 22-250/243/25-06 etc.) - corrosion, change of use, change of calibre and there are people that do their own barrel work, so they don’t have to cost the same as a new rifle. Also, so long as there’s nothing wrong with the rest of the rifle, a new barrel makes an old rifle effectively the same as a new rifle (or better a lot of the time as the barrel will probably be premium).
