sabatti? i have owned a sabatti shooter, dont let that price tag fool you, things are target rifles.

definitely ad a tikka t3x to the list. But as also stated try it, i have passed on a t3x and sold a Sako because they just didnt feel right. Settled on a CZ550 even tho its kinda "inferior" to a 1980s sako. Doesnt shoot inferior tho and hitting stuff with the Sako was way more difficult than it should be ergonomics do more than just feel nicer.

Definitely give the sabatti shooter a look tho, bit heavy due to the barrel on it but sometimes a heavier gun feels lighter than it actually is!

other honorable mention i can give is the Sabatti ranger, also quite cheap. Light, mobile, integral picatinny on the receiver, threaded from factory and fiber optic irons.

I did see these. But don’t know much about them. As with the Bergara. Both look decent.

The basic rover hunter is a decent entry level but nothing i would look too long at, however despite the price tag the Shooter is a proper target rifle. Great barrel, multiradial rifling, semi heavy barrel, picatinny milled put of The receiver. Used to get 5 touching holes out of it with Sako factory ammo.

Stock is cheaper synthetic however and not many chamberings. its not "bad" as in affecting accuracy but it does look and feel cheap. Action and barrel are solid.

the ranger has a short stiff barrel with regular rifling, a bit more pronounced pistol grip, and is also very accurate. Is has Mlok slots in the foreend and also an integral picatinny.

pathfinder model is more of The same exept they scalopped, fluted and removed weight wherever possible while still maintaining a short stiff barrel

all come threaded, all have match triggers.

personally i was a big fan from a functionality perspective but they do look and feel a bit cheap due to the hard syntethic used and the bare boned bolt handle.

They can come with adjustable stock length and cheek riser but check that because i dont remember wich models do. The ones that dont require you to buy swap out butplates and risers

Oh and if it matters, barrels are quickchange

Not sure on your budget but I'd also consider having one built on a tikka action
some fabulous gunsmiths on here who would all do a great job

I had one done recently by @BE Precision barrel length to my choice and would have been less than new retail for a new tikka of equal spec
Just waiting on PSE to finish it off (which pushes the budget up)

Shoots very well, just christened it on 30th April for the last day of fallow bucksimage_cropper_1744994524761.jpg

yea tikka t3x is the benchmark for "entry level" i think. For sheer budget/performance id say sabatti, sauer and mauser m18 have been a bit disappointmenting for their price imo. howa etc i cant give a personal opinion

I have a Mauser M03 and like the look and feel of an M12 Max in laminate with adjustable comb and thumb hole stock. But it is a very personal decision and you have to try for fit and feel etc. The M12 Max isn’t inexpensive though ☹️

Those are good rifles. calling the m18 model a mauser was an insult to the mauser brothers.

Hi. Looking for opinions please.
I recently got my variation for my .308 and foolishly raced out to get the first one I thought was ok which was a Savage Arms Axis, I mounted my scope and zeroed it in.
But after going out a few times I found that it just doesn’t feel or fit right. So I have decided to change up.
So I have narrowed a few rifles I am drawn to and after a recent visit to the Stalking Show and trying a few I have narrowed a few down but I wanted to see options/experiences please.
I shoot deer all over and my syndicate in Scotland is starting to get Boar so looking for a good all rounder, new but don’t want to break the bank.

Option 1. CZ 600 either Ergo or Varmint
Option 2. Benelli Lupo
Option 3. Sauer 100XT
Option 4. Mauser either M12 or M25 straight pull
Option 5. Browning X bolt 2 Nordic

I have a scope I like already which can be mounted.

Thanks in advance

Darren
Had the CZ ergo on 308...sold it after 4 months....stock is like jelly....shotgun groups....

A friend of mine uses a Mauser M12 in .308. It's no where near as fancy as a Sako, but bang for buck, no pun intended, it is awesome.

It comes in a little cheaper than most too, and is Rem 700 platform, so even if it didn't fit you'd have no trouble finding a stock that does suit.

I really like the flush mag it comes with too.

I had a Mauser M12, not for long though.
The barrel did not sit true in the stock, almost touching one side whilst large gap the other. After a couple of rounds it was touching.
Incredible amount of flex in the fore end.
Unable to achieve any sort of acceptable precision regardless of the ammunition, nor could several others.
May have been a Friday afternoon/Monday morning gun, but put me off ever considering a Mauser again.

Tried one of the Steyr offerings?

The new 'budget" Blaser? ProX i believe it is called.
As much as I dislike them I have never heard of a blaser that didnt shoot.

Steel Action aswell

The Tikka would be the obvious choice of course
But only dead fish go with the flow

Some of those are opposite ends of the spectrum 😊, if you like a classic bolt, like the CZ600, which is a great solid rifle, you may also want to consider the Ruger 77, underrated IMO.

+1 for Tikka T3

Mausers as a rule are great rifles but if you are considering straight pull try them first. Some are not particularly user friendly, some are just plain awful. Mauser M96 straight pull is a lovely slick action and accurate rifle but terrible ergonomics, bolt position is way too far forward. Not tried the M25. Maybe consider Blaser R8, or R93 if you’re not too fussed about the improvements between models and rather save money, both great rifles.

Varmit barrels is heavy when stalking and I would advise against.

M25to me is a very nice rifle, bit of a poor mans R8. Tikka, Sauer also fine.
Best way to decide is to find a place where you can check them all out. Probably an easy decision once you hold them one after the other......

Go for the Benelli Lupo ,wood or synthetic they're both excellent. Or better still get a blaser k95 and you'll never have to change rifles again just get another barrel if you desire.!!
