Measuring head

I picked a roe buck up off the road a couple of months ago with a broken antler whic I have glued back on,can this still be measured,
im going to the game fair and was gonna take it with me but not if it can’t be measured, also do they charge for this,w

Out of curiosity, why would you want to score a head that you picked up off the side of the road?
It's the deer that's getting scored so don't see why anyone wouldn't get a good one done.

Done quite a few through the years and with the medal status they can make decent money.

Okay. Theres nothing wrong with it iof course.

I just always considered measurement to be a trophy thing, and in my mind would always consider a trophy to be of significance because of the journey to get there (the stalk) and the memories that come with it.

Personally, don't think size and measuring is anything to do with trophy status as it doesn't have to to be anything special to be a trophy and an exceptional stalk and the memories can be part of getting any size of head.

Obviously, the excitement knowing you are stalking a potentially medal beast can all add to the whole experience but again the beast is getting scored so the memories will hopefully always be there and the medal can be the cherry on the top of it all.

Because there’s a story behind it,I was out stalking and tried to get in to two separate bucks and failed on both, then when I was walking back to my vehicle I noticed it lying on the road,it had been hit by a vehicle so I went to make sure it was dead and noticed the size of antler on it and thought it’s quite big so pulled it of the road and removed the head and cleaned it up,w

its to go on the wall in the beaters bothy,it won’t be for sale and if I had seen it when out stalking I wouldn’t shoot it anyway,w

It weighs 520 grams not sure if the pictures do it any justice,as I said it will just be a talking point ,w

No harm in submitting it to your local Cic measurer for assessment. They will decide if it can be measured after being repaired. Give it a go as it looks like a very nice trophy.

I’ve had one with a detached antler, I glued it back in and even though it could only have went it the one way the cic wouldn’t officially measure it as the width could’ve been tampered with, he did score it out of curiosity and it was a gold but the paperwork wasn’t officially stamped and no medal was issued

Fair enough if the antler was detached at the pedicle. In this case it looks like it's a clean break so can only be reattached one way so if done correctly should not effect the span measurement. Anyway it will be the measures decision as to if it can be measured or not. There is only one way to find out!

I completely agree - to be honest I don’t like the “worst head of 20xx” thread as even a button buck can be a great stalk….

yes thats basically what im saying. I could not see the sense in having a road-killed deer measured as none of the above applies to it.

Each to their own of course.

the ground i stalk is not common to produce medal heads. I have a fair few i have prepared that are ‘trophys’ to me. Some of which are just simple 2 point roe but they remind me of the circumstances that led to their demise.

There's a pretty big skull collecting hobby hundreds of thousands if not millions do it, Stalkers or non stalkers.

Plus even if you aren't wanting to keep them they'll sell for £75-£125 even broken, Taxidermists usually buy up gold medals for taxidermy for there own house.
