MEDICAL VERIFICATION

Just doing renewal at the moment. My Doc charged £90. Surgey is in rural South Warwickshire.

At least it was quick and he was friendly and phoned me up to ask exactly what I needed and he seemed to actually take an interest. Still seemed a bit high though but I suppose over 5yrs it is nothing.
Where in south Warwickshire?

At least most of these GPs seem to be willing to engage (even if there is a fee involved). My London surgery refused stating that "as a matter of surgery policy they do not issue the required letters/reports". This meant I had to go with ShootCert, the surgery were at least responsive in sharing medical records, etc. Only time will tell if ShootCert acceptable to the Met (4months and counting to hear anything re grant application)....

I’m SE London and for the very reason you mentioned about your GP I decided not to even bother with mine and went straight with MedCert as they are affiliated with BASC, that said it’s dragging on now as they’ve had my records since end of Jan and was told last week I should get the hard copy plus a scanned copy last week and here we are still nothing .

It will be interesting to see if your G.P. surgery has a change of heart when next it comes around to renewing your certificate. Perhaps they will have cottoned on by then that they will still have done all the work in supplying the records to Shootercert but will not have been paid for their efforts.

At least the impression they gave was that they were doing it to limit their liability:

"You have asked me if I have any concerns regarding the issuing of a firearms licence to this individual, and you therefore seek my professional opinion rather than a simple report of the medical facts.

It is widely accepted that the major clinical issue giving rise to improper use of firearms is the presence of personality disorder. To give a professional opinion on such a diagnosis one would need to conduct a specific examination for personality disorder and have special expertise. Such expertise would, at a minimum, require approval under section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007).

I regret to inform you that I am not approved under sec 12 MHA, nor have I conducted an examination appropriate for the diagnosis of personality disorder in the person. I am therefore not qualified to offer the expert professional opinion you seek and would suggest that you approach an appropriately qualified psychiatrist who may be able to help you in this regard."

£47 in South Somerset.....but interestingly, the surgery don't do them themselves but outsource them to a company called Medi2data to whom you pay the fee. Seemed to work smoothly enough.

I was quoted £18 by my surgery four years ago...by the time I had queried it and they had responded the certificates had landed on the mat.

My G.P. charged me £35 back in October. If the police take any longer renewing my certificates it will no longer be valid and I suppose I will need to get another report (I'm on week 6 of the automatic 8 week extension). :)

My GP surgery say they want £133.00! But as we got ten year certificates in exchange for this I just thankful that BASC were able to speak out as the voice of shooting and get that agreement of ten year certificates in exchange for additional medical certification.

MedCert have been in touch last week and after their Dr processed my records they then tell me that my records only go back to 97’ at which point I informed them that I moved down here from Glasgow in 96’, “ oh I see that now makes sense “ 🤦‍♂️
upshot is they are now speaking to the Met to see if the records they have processed now ( going back to 97’) are enough to satisfy them and so it continues…….
