Just done the dsc1 and I've heard about the mentor scheme with basc, but theirs no info on the basc site that I could find.
Basically I'm after more tips and hands on advise before I jump into the dsc2, so anyone who can shed a bit of light on the mentor scheme please do.

Are you happy with your method of stalking to take on DSC2 as all the ducks need to be in a row from the meet/brief right the way to putting the rifle away and cleaning down the knives.

why not spend some time going out on paid stalks and enjoy yourself while getting some more experience?

No hence more experience will hopefully be gained from the mentor scheme, to be fair I'm in no rush to put in for the dsc2
When you said done dsc1 then jump into dsc2 that is how it reads!
The gap for me was 10 years between the 2 mainly took the second as one bit of ground is leased from a large company so it just added to the yearly update phone call.

The BDS also run a training and mentoring scheme that might be more suited to your needs.

What's the script with the bds one. As I understand it although the limited info I can find for the basc version you have to be a basc member and completed your dsc 1

Only personal experience...but the BASC mentor scheme was a total waste of time for me when I was looking for some help with the node inspection side of things. A bit of Youtube and practice worked much better ...I suppose it depends on if you are lucky to fins someone local and willing who is on the BASC scheme. Good luck

Experience plus I think but don't know the mentor scheme isn't just going and shooting a deer, it could also be a bit of land management, larder work or high seat repairs. I've been hunting since I could walk, finding and killing animals is the easy bit.

It doesn't matter how proficient a stalker your guide is, if they're not passionate about - and good at - teaching, then the whole experience will be a waste of time.

Very true, I found that with diving students, my judgement was never far out from the first couple of pool/classroom lessons.
Arrive early asking questions, ask to come in the pump room wanting to learn or wanting to see what is inside a regulator and how it works (all the bits put back and in the right order lol}
Hooked!
Took young Jack pigeon shooting now when I am welding on their farm he has the spare mask watching, making adjustments to the welder so I don't have to crawl out!

For BASC mentoring I think you email deer@basc.org.uk then they email people who have registered in your area to see if anyone can help.

I see you are from Liverpool so the BDS scheme areas are a bit far away.

Nearer to you BASC have a scheme in The Forest of Bowland (Lancashire) see Bowland which is aimed at post DSC1 and pre DSC2 stalkers. The guide is a good guy.

BASC sends out an email to local willing volunteers for the scheme. They then can choose to help anyone that requests assistance through the scheme. I'm not a big BASC fan, but I think that this is a worthwhile initiative of theirs that helps to connect people.

Not mentoring but BASC also run what they call the 'intermediate deer coarse' two days some classroom some actual stalking. I did it and whilst it was probably aimed at someone who hadn't been out much and had just done the dsc1 without much other stalking, I found it really good. Make it what you want and ask loads of questions and it can be really useful. Shot a prickett on the second day to boot.
Was with John Senior Nottingham way , would recommend
