Hi,
Does anyone know of any unimog for sale?.
Ideally running and driving, don’t mind abit of work.
Got to be tax and mot exempt, ideally a 404 or 406.
Nearer to West Yorkshire area the better.
Budget of Upto 10k
Thanks
Gary

There’s not loads about, not 404 or 406,Ive been looking.
Theres a couple of rough ones on fleabay and a better one that I’m having no joy with as the seller doesn’t want to communicate!.
I want a mot and tax exempt one as it’ll be primarily a toy and for tractor runs etc, hence keeping the cost down and about £100 a year to insure.

Have you tried Atkinsons they have a number of machines that may fit the bill:

There is also the official dealership at Ingleton A. C. Price (Engineering) Ltd - Official Unimog Service Dealer although their stock tends to be more commercial and up to date as opposed to hobbyist older machines.

Thanks Swedish,
I’ve looked at both sites and as you say, most places are more into commercial machines.
Atkinsons had a couple around my price, tax and mot exempt, but are sold.
Cheers
Anyway 👍

Military surplus sales are good for later ones too. I ran a 1450L for several years. They can be very expensive to maintain if you're putting in the miles but as a fun thing they are great!

Problem with the military surplus guys is that they have got a bit greedy and rarely are they up-front with prices.

Hi matey if you come off the M62 for north cave "where it goes three lanes to two" at the top of the slip road turn right and as you go over the motorway look left as there's a compound full of them in various states.

Are they LEZ exempt?

This looks the part for a stalking vehicle - escape hatch useful for foxing 😂

If they are Tax and Mot exempt they will be considered HistorIc vehicles and thus can go LEZs. The one caveat is that they must be largely original with the majority of the equipment etc being original to the design. You can have a replacement engine etc, but it needs of a type that was originally fitted.

So your Series Landrover should be fitted with a land rover 4 cylinder petrol engine. You could get away with fitting a 2.5 litre as opposed to the 2.25 litre. What you can’t do is drop in a Chevy 5.0 litre V8, even if it is of the same vintage and get away with claiming its a historic vehicle. It would need to comply with the regs for modern cars in terms of emissions etc.

Is the rule still 40 years old?

If so then Series 3 Stage One V8s qualify already, with early V8 One Tens, shortly to be followed by V8 Nineties - poor old Mr Khan 😁

Nice Moggy by the way 👍

It depends. London its built before 1973, or taxed as a historic vehicle, up here in Edinburgh, Glasgow etc it 30.

In London you pay £12.50 a day to take a non exempt vehicle into the LEZ, and provided you pay you can in often.

In Scotland we are fined £60 for breaching the LEZ, and it doubles each time you do it again.

And other cities all have their own rules so you need to be aware and check before you go.
