MID WALES looking to get into Stalking

Hi guys, hope you all had a good x mas!

I’m Josh, based in Mid West Wales. I’ve shot pretty much all of my life and currently own a 17hmr and .223 but I would love the opportunity to get into deer stalking. My goal over the next year is to create a lifestyle where I can mainly eat meat that I’ve sustainably sourced myself. Be that through shooting deer/boar, other game or spearfishing.

Cheers for taking the time to read this 🙏 look forward to becoming part of the community

Welcome from South Wales! I know of some stalking in the Ludlow/Leominster area, if this is within distance for you and you are interested then I'm happy to send his details!

That would be awesome if you could! I’d love to get out on a stalk and that’s definitely within distance. Thanks for your message much appreciated

To be fair, that’s a really nice touch there for a new stalker.
I was looking for a syndicate near me and nobody helped in any way really (one I think suggested a long ago post off instagram which I was grateful for but that was about it, silence and tumble weed from all others).
Thankfully and by sheer co-incidence I was called out of the blue, and unrelated to here offered a ~1300 acre permission.
Good on you for showing help to another person 👍🏼

No problem, I'll send a message over now
Wonder if there's much stalking in mid Wales, do you know of any yet? I'd like to visit mid Wales more often, amazing scenery. North Wales is quite well stocked with Fallow, and there's a few Roe and Red in the Brecon Beacons national Park so I'm sure there will be some activity somewhere in the middle!

I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experience of spearfishing if anyone has ever tried it? I have vauge memories of seeing it in some old western films and I know the basics.

I appreciate the kind words MarkD123! 👍

I'll be honest, I'm pretty new to stalking myself and found it very difficult at the beginning also.
There's absolutely no harm in being helpful wherever possible! We all started at the beginning at one point!
I have no ground with deer on unfortunately, just foxes etc mostly cattle farms, so paid stalks is the way for the time being.

Fantastic result for you obtaining that amount of ground! Happy shooting fella 😁👍

All the more generous of you in that case to help point another person in the direction of a deer stalking permission.
Hats off to you! 👏

I’ve spent the last two seasons spearfishing here in the UK and it’s been fairly productive! I started in Australia a few years ago when travelling and kept diving when I came home. There’s plenty on offer in the British waters and over summer we regularly eat fresh seafood.

Bass and pollock are usually the main targets depending on where you’re based but you can also dive for lobster, scollops, bream, flatfish and when diving deeper although rare you even have the opportunity to shoot cod.

You’re not aloud to spearfish with an oxygen tank in the UK so all diving must be free diving I.e whilst holding your breath.
The only thing that lets it down in the UK is the consistency in visibility. You spend a lot of time waiting for the weather to line up so the visibility is good enough
