Mini mauser, Roe legal caliber re-barrel

Hi, the
I run 95gr VMax from my 6.5 Grendel at 2750fps
Thats from 27.5gr of N130 which is a VERY moderate but accurate load
Its also from a 19" barrel

30gr in a 22" gets you 2900fps and the mythical 1750ftlbs (1776ftlbs)

To be honest you don't need it
At no point have I thought I was undergunned or worried about energy or efficacy

The combination of the highly frangible bullet and the moderate terminal velocity leads to very clean carcases and very quick death.
Zero exits on large deer with clean entry and demolished internal organs.

Stags, hinds, roe, munties
All fallen to the mighty Grendel
Thank you! Very helpful information. How does it feed?
Many thanks K

If you stray away from 30cal, make sure there will be non-lead bullets available in your chosen caliber, that have decent terminal behaviour in the velocity window you're using.

Somewhat surprised nobody has mentioned 350 Legend. 223 boltface, makes the energy requirement comfortably, and I'm quite sure you can eek out the 2450fps (in 22") for Scotland if required. Will limit the bullet choice though, and in an case it's much shorter range cartridge than 30cal and below (trajectory).

t's very hard to achieve, at least taking the pressure into account. And in all likelihood, the ammo would be unfit to use in some other chamber / rifle design.

Good energy, but a slow poke at around 2200fps

There is 2500fps factory ammo (Hornady), and no doubt you can get 2450fps with homeloads (including non-lead). It's just that finding a light enough bullet with decent BC might be impossible, so shorter range it is...

You tell me
Custom Sako 75 Action 1 formerly a .222

Very interesting. Was previously told there was insufficient room on the bolt head to accommodate the PPC case on the action 1 bolt face. It seems not! Would you mind sharing the smiths details who undertook the work? Was there much to do to get it to feed?

I have recently bought a Zastava M85 in .222 for muntjac. The rifle is very accurate but has a slightly pitted chamber, so I will re-barrel at some point in the next few years. I have more and more roe cropping up and am and will be pressured to cull them. Even though I don't think they really need it yet here in the Southern Welsh borders!

My question is when I re barrel in a few years or so I would like it to be at 1700 ftlbs and 6mm or above. I would like to keep the barrel to 22".

What can I get roe legal in a 22" barrel, with that bolt face area (happy to have let out)?? I have looked at 6mm ppc, 6mmx47, 7.62x39

Is this doable and thoughts or ideas - or should I just re-barrel again in .222 - helpful comments welcomed!

K
Re-barrelling isn't cheap ! If the rifle isn't very current your better chucking it in for a whole brand new or safe queen rifle in the calibre you want . In England and Wales Scotland its best to get a minimum of 243win / 6mm creed say as the smallest then you can shoot all the Uk deer

It's alive!!!
Shown with 100gr 6mm as I don't have any 87gr or 100gr .257.
It feeds and ejects!
Alberta boy said "building rifles is an addiction". So true! I'm not closed to a 6mm PPC as yet, but I like this option a lot (in .257).

I’m sure my 6 PPC used to load up to all UK deer legal very easily.

How did you get a new blued barrel fitted and proofed in 6ppc? In a matter of days? 🤩
