Most underrated calibre

The 7x64 has no noticeable recoil IMO, you can utilise bullets from 140-180 grn no problem, also being 7mm you benefit from the great BCs of modern bullets like berger, JKL etc that the 30 cals can't compete with. I use the berger 168 VLDs in mine and have no problem hitting a 14inch gong at 850 metres.

6.5 Creedmoor its how the 260 rem should of been designed:stir: Only a few in the country and can you Guess I have one:rofl:

Agree, I love my 222. I really fancy a 200 cal, but I will have to shift the 222 to get it, and I don't want to be without it.

The 7x64 is interesting, I thought I might swap the 30/06 barrel on my Blaser for a 7x64, just for interest. I have never used a 7mm of any flavour.

I have a soft spot for the 222 REM , that was the first centerfire rifle I ever fired when i was 7 or 8 . It was my grandfathers old Remington 722 and I still have the gun today . He bought it new in 1958 I think .

Now with that being said like you I am a fan of the 20 cals also ! Having had a pair of 204 Ruger's .

But unlike you it's relatively easy for me to own both (which I do).

never thought about the .222 until I needed a smaller centrefire for foxes
got a .222 over a .223 and absolutely love it!

idiot proof reloading too!

If you travel about much hunting I think it's the 30.06.

It's ballistics are good for pretty much 99% of the world's game and vitally ammunition can be found wherever big game is hunted.

Grand Hubert, have to disagree with you there,:???:
The 30-06 is only under rated by people who don`t know what there on about.
:cuckoo:
It does what it says on the box very well, with no frills, ammunition available everywhere. Perfect
:-D

Although I've never even shot a rifle that fires this cartridge... I am struck by how sensible some of the necked up .308 cartridges sound. For example the .358 Winchester. 200 grns at 2400-2500fps. All the power you would need in the UK and without all the damage that can occur with some of the hotter/faster catridges. Am I right?!!

I wouldn't say the .30-06 is underated. It's held in fairly high esteem by most shooters.

I have come across a number of shooters that seem to think it's either far too much for the UK or rendered redundant by the .300 mags.

IMO it is a more useful cartridge than the 308 or .300 magnums, especially if one is travelling.

Experienced hunters tend to hold in high regard, as you say.

Couldn't agree more about the .30-06 Grandhubert, and the 8x57 is only really the German equivalent.
