MS Outlook help needed.

I am having bother with my Acer laptop, running Windows 11 Home and with a Microsoft 365 subscription for the Office apps including Outlook. I have set my default browser to Google Chrome because I have had accounts, user names, passwords etc all set up for years. However, when I try to open a link in an email in Outlook it opens in MS Edge which is a pain if I need login details, passwords etc.

If I go into Outlook options the dropdown box to select browser offers Edge or Default.

Outlook 1.webp

If I try to reset the browser from Edge to Default, i.e. Chrome, I get this error message and it reverts to Edge, it won't allow selection of Default.

Outlook 2.webp

This is nonsense because I have not altered any dates. If I put on my tinfoil hat, this seems to be a deliberate tactic to force use of Edge.

Has anyone else also encountered this, do you know of a solution?

Type default Apps in the Search Bar at the bottom left of the toolbar, click on Web Browser and select the one you want.
Thanks, I tried that as well. I selected Chrome as my default, the tick duly appeared but it still ignores me! I tried restarting, the tick disappears and Edge is used. I left the Settings page open with Chrome ticked and tried a couple of links, once again Edge is used.

Outlook 3.webp

Maybe I need a new tinfoil hat. 😕

Ahh, Microsoft! Don’t you just love ‘em!
Maybe try using ‘new’ outlook as that might have additional settings for browser options.

Go into settings, select remove programs / apps, scroll to Edge , "Click on uninstall"?

Thanks, already tried. In settings, most programs have some of the options "Move," "Edit", "Modify" "Uninstall". Edge allows selection of "Modify", "Uninstall" is greyed out and cannot be selected. "Modify" asks if you wish to "allow Edge to make changes to your device". Given that I am trying to constrain Edge I don't think that would be a good idea!

Unfortunately Microsoft is pushing edge and will override your personal choice.
They are also pushing 365 to become co-pilot their very poor Ai engine which they charge for.
If you want free unmonitored search engine use Start Page, which is free and has no hidden tracking agenda .
If not duck duck go is not as fast but again doesn't ram Microsoft crap down your throat.
Good luck 👍

Thanks for the input, it's not just me with a tinfoil hat then. That Co-Pilot is a pain, predictive text is bad enough but that is very intrusive, at least it can be uninstalled. Maybe time to look beyond Microsoft.

Totally agree ,moronsoft told me my laptop was windows 11 ready installed it and surprise no it wasn't.
It killed media player 115 albums and a dozen films lost .
System restore back to 10 ,now no apps will load on my desktop.
Microsoft suck and as windows 10 is finishing their idea of a help desk told me to buy a windows 11 laptop and bin my old 1.
Thanks but no thanks .

I would just say that I was always a Microsoft pc or laptop user until 2017, which is when I was given a Mac.
I hated it with a passion and spent 2 days turning it into something that resembled a windows machine. But having used them a lot over the last 8 years I now am converted.
Yes, they are expensive, but they work. Like all the time.
No preference of browser being forced upon you, or mail client or anything.
Press the button and it’s up and running, whilst the windows machine is still tring to find its slippers.

Even my wife is a convert and she hates apple, but finds the Mac so much better, even with Microsoft products.

Maybe that is the solution to your problem (with a large price tag attached!!)
