Hi guys been speaking to a mate and he says I can't legally shoot game with my multi shot shotgun.is this true ? Does anyone know.

I take it your mate doesn't mean semi-autos as if that's the case what am I doing owning and shooting 4 of them ? bazil

Why does he think this???? Seen many a person shooting with a semi auto, in some circles it is frowned upon, mind you there was a time that an over and under was also!!!!

Is this a section 1 shotgun, which is issued for practical only, if not then you can.

Yeah lads section one multi shot we do a lot of blue hare drives on the hill and they say this isn't vermin control as they are not destroying crops so that's sport so you can't use them for that.

Is it legal to shoot geese with a semi though? Think I read something on here that said it wasn't?

Another one of those myths again I think as I have done it for years and most of the people I know who go wild fowling use a semi auto.

Not quite legal if you don't read and understand the law and make sure that the category of weapon you are using complies.

The Wildlife and Countryside Act prohibits "automatic and semi-automatic weapons" for killing wild birds. However the definitions in the Act states:
automatic weapon” and “semi-automatic weapon” do not include any weapon the magazine of which is incapable of holding more than two rounds".

Therefore any s2 semi-automatic shot gun, such as held on a standard Shot Gun Certificate is lawful. But any s1 semi-automatic shot gun such as held on an FAC will need a temporary block placed in the magazine. A simple length of wooden dowel such as a few inches of broom stale suffices. It does not have to be permanently affixed.

But...and here is the warning...using an unrestricted Ruger 10/22 to shoot geese or pheasants may very possibly be illegal as the magazine is ten shot regardless of the actual number of cartridges loaded.
