Muntjac in Cheshire !

Had Muntjac slots in the sand in the bottom of the quarry four years ago, opposite the Fishpool, Blading up in the evening to keep the quarry floor flat so the loader shovel tyre ruts were not frosted in the morning, Next day while dipping the oil levels on the screens ................. Muntjac slots from the evening before.

When living in Cheshire I photographed some slots which were munty and some which were roe, maybe 8/10 years ago. Not a native population but 'travellers', a few miles from the Fishpool Inn (as was), close to Delamere forest.
The Police were not convinced, so I had to go to Macclesfield to stalk some reds in the Peak Park. The odd fallow from a contained herd escaped and were normally shot by locals who knew the herd's owner. This was some 4/5 years ago
The landowner wanted munties shot on sight - regarded as dangerous forestry pests.

Now down here in Wales and munties cross the lanes at all times of day/night. On the land I shoot, the roe and fallow take windfall apples from an orchard maybe 30 yds from the landowners window. Deer desert this is not and boar down the road in the Forest of Dean - must try them some time.

I've picked up a roe a few times on a trailcam in East Cheshire. First time I've seen them on this ground in over 4 years of stalking there...

I was driving near jodrel bank a couple of years ago, out ran a muntjac and I though “ no way was that a munty” then all of a sudden another ran across the road.. never seen any since..
