Muntjac Southwest England

Shot some with a client on the Quantocks - heads sent to Norma Chapman for her research but I can't remember if there were any results from it. Personally seen a couple on Haldon Hill when stalking that area in the 90s.
What was she researching Orion?

If you google 'Norma Chapman muntjac' it'll throw up more leads than I could possibly link to. ;)
I've no don't that these were isolated introductions rather than part of the general spread, but still interesting to see when you're not expecting them.

Seen one for the first time near Blandford, Dorset about two years ago. Sporadic sightings (two or three) in the same area since.

Found slot marks last week for the first time not far from crediton, since then the landowner has seen dozens of slots marks, will be putting a high seat in the area at the weekend, no confirmed sighting yet but by the size of the slots it would have to be muntjack

I replied to a thread similar to this sometime ago and was shouted down for saying they are right here on the South Coast of Dorset.. The was until a kind fella posted a picture up of one he shot next door to Arne...

Apologies, slightly off topic, sighted by a very reliable source has far North as just outside Lockerbie Scotland only the other week ! Surely that must have been released? I've never heard of them previous anywhere near there, I know the Keeper well there though and have no reason to doubt his word.

I spend quite a lot of my life sitting on a train gazing out of the window on the East Coast mainline. It is a very muntjacky corridor of scrubby woodland that runs uninterrupted from the heart of London to Edinburgh, and right through the middle of prime Muntjac real estate. Given muntjac population growth, muntjac will find that getting a peaceful place to live will be increasingly hard so will spread up along the railway lines and motorways. I doubt individuals travel that far in their lifetime, but when young are looking for new territories they will go where fewer muntjac are - i.e. northwards. So we will be seeing them regularly up here before too long.
