Need help on Variation wording request.

Have they removed the ‘notes’ section from the end of the form?
No it is still there, but the implication of the limit is they want a brief reason not a five hundred word essay as to why.
But

But if he puts them down as his good reason he may well get asked to evidence that good reason, if he hasn’t got boar in his ground or paid boar trips booked he won’t be able to.
I didn't have paid trips booked abroad nor boar on my land. But my FEO was happy to take my justification to put something along the lines of carriage to port of embarkation on my FAC conditions

Why explain anything? I’ve many many years put nothing but just ‘deer management’. Never been refused a single variation request, up to and above 9.3 x 62. The calibre or chambering is irrelevant, you’re requesting authority to purchase another tool, you decide on the best tool for the job.
Point understood but it may be the Op has previously encountered intense FEO scrutiny of each chambering request and is simply attempting to be ahead of the curve, thus ensuring zero reason for delay in Variation approval.

As implied above, use the notes section at the end of the form, tis what I have done for my last 3 variations. I put concise and valid points as to the why/justifiable reason and have received all three variations back without the FEO even calling to discuss.

I always reiterate the "conditions" so they can't mess that up 😅

"X calibre and mod will be used for deer stalking, zeroing and all lawful quarry on land on which the holder has permission" etc etc

Larger deer species and I would mention the impending move to lead free (they seem to like that) and the 308 being more viable in that instance.

I have found if you leave no room for them to question things, they won't. Whether the hoops needed be there to jump through in the first place or not, play the game and go stalking!

The calibre or chambering isn’t irrelevant as the statutory guidance contains a table that dictates what quarry is good reason for what cartridge. If you’ve got an FEO that doesn’t follow the table that’s great for you, but most will stick to it - deer is not classed as good reason for 9.3x62, dangerous game is.

The fact the guidance is now Statutory means that any departure by the FLD will need strong justification, most won’t do it.

9.3 common tie calibre in europe

I had 404Jeff authorised for roe 😂 and why not? It’s no deadlier than a .222 in terms of safety

I had the reverse situation, had a .308 for deer and AOLQ put in for a .243 / 6mm also for deer and AOLQ but specifically for Muntjac on ground that holds Muntjac, Roe and Fallow. Variation turned around in 3 weeks.

Just be clear what you are asking for and why.

I’m not saying I agree with the logic, but the guidance is the guidance and deer is not good reason for a 9.3 as far as the police are concerned, nor 404Jeff.

If you however have 9.3 or 404 primarily for hunting abroad, then adding a deer condition for this country should not be an issue.

Are the above primarily conditioned for stalking roe, or for hunting abroad?

Was some years ago mind

Just a quick update, had the call regarding my variation request, after a very Friday, asked a a few questions 1, why do I need a larger calibre. 2 asked about the current deer seasons for England. 3 do Inow the current situation regarding moving to copper ammunition.
Off the back of it variation has been given and now just waiting on the postman to drop it through the door 🤞🤣.

Many thanks to you all with your help with wording.
