Newbie looking to learn!

You say that you live on Norfolk coast, plenty of folk on here round your way to go out stalking with. My advice is you want a .243 for deer control which would leave you with a .243 to control foxes ! My Firearms officer tried several times with me to make do with a .222 which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard when i wanted a proper calibre for deer! Sure you will get lots of advice from more of the experienced lot on here .
For the legal reasons hopefully I can keep him at .243 minimum as it also reduces the need for multiple rifles!
Thankyou so much for your support it really is hugely appreciated!

I think I will try and keep it simple and hope it will aid my chances of acceptance...
a .22 for rabbits and .243 for foxes, and locally I believe it is mostly muntjac and CWD with a few fallow here and there so should be plenty do you think? Thanks again
If you can justify it - by having the permissions - ask for a .22 rimfire (vermin), a .22 centrefire (for foxes/CWD/munties) and a .243 (for foxes/all deer). Cover all the bases.

Not a bad shout as could have the centrefire set for night shooting if I so wished.. opens up opportunities, thanks 😉

Having just got my first FAC I had a conversation with the FLO prior to applying. I had done one paid stalk and had two more booked which due to lockdown were cancelled

The one I had done was fine for them and when it came to the rifles he told me, you want something small, something general and then something bigger so went for .22-250, .243 and .308 and all were approved

Ok thank you!
People tell you it’s hard to get your certificate so this surprises me, may I ask where you’re based and was your acceptance on paid stalking alone please?

Yeah I thought it was supposed to be hard as well but has been very easy, I'm in Essex and was solely on paid stalking which is a condition on my FAC as well as that's what i mentioned to them, but once I've got other areas to stalk they will see about opening it up
It may have been easier as I've had my SGC for a number of years without complaints also but not sure

BASC run a staking scheme (you do have to be a member £82/year ) single accompanied stalk is £125 .
Pete

Ok well your situation is exactly what I was hoping to get so fingers crossed!
I’d like to get a small variety of calibres restricted to accompanied/payed stalking as I feel it will be easier to gain permissions and be taken seriously if I already hold an FAC (especially being 24 it can be hard to be taken seriously) and hopefully with experience and permissions it could be opened up later on..
This would be the ideal (apart from an open certificate from the get go, but have put that in the ‘not gonna happen’ pile) 😅
Thanks for your help btw

I am a member for my shotgun shooting and my dog so will have a look into that!
Thankyou for your comment
