The Buttolo works too, if a stag is harassing a hind she’ll peep, so will her calf.I think it's horses for courses, I have used the Sceery Elk Bull call for many years on and off with some good results. About 8 years ago a friend brought back the Sceery Elk Cow from the US and I had some success with it, he had great results with it. In fact the last sika stag I shot in the rut was 'called' in by a hind I had spooked who stood peeping at me for 10 minutes until he came to have a look.
An FC ranger friend uses the Nordic and Sceery, same as I use a Buttolo and Nordic for roe.
The best advice I had is to start off quietly as, if they are nearby and you are too loud you can sound like a big stag that can scare a smaller one off as Dunwater says.
I'm sure if they are in the mood they'll come in to any call!
Yes, you are right, I forgot to mention that, one of local rangers here uses the buttolo for sika. The Buttolo works too, if a stag is harassing a hind she’ll peep, so will her calf.

Just the standard Buttolo blatter, I would then find videos of sika hinds 'pheeping' on YouTube and mimic that with itHi Nick,
Is there a specific Buttolo that he uses for the sika? Might try pick one up and give it a shot![]()
Full on here in the Forest Bowland now, usually peak is 2nd week of October to end of the month but can extend well into November. The stags are really singing now, I had some friends out over the weekend and it was amazing, stags calling all day and all night.
For me the Nordik spooks more than brings in unless using it quietly and in a high wind. The screey has worked better , experimenting with both over the last five years
It is interesting for sure! Especially on the occasions when it works and they come in closeOpposite for me!
Used it 4x in the rut and called 4 stags, 3 of which went into the chiller.
I guess it’s all about timing it right but to my ear it’s far superior. Some of the concerns above are valid, the last stag I called was a wee spiker who came into 150yds and wouldn’t come further and just milled around (he still got the bad news) the bigger stags came for the call. I presume the smaller beast was anticipating a big lad, which the Nordic certainly portrays!
