Hi like that title says I'm from Liverpool and looking to apply for a firearms certificate and to apply to my local gun club, I stumbled across this site through google.

When I get it I want my first rifle to be a Lee Enfield no.4

Pleased to meet you all

Welcome from Essex, good luck getting your FAC, it may be easier if your already the member of the gun club unless you have elsewhere that you would be able to shoot it

Thanks and no I'm not a member yet, they're the only club left in Liverpool apparently so they're flooded with membership applications

Ah yeah definitely try and get in with them sooner rather than later as they the FAC they will ask what the reason you want one is, and if you don't have anywhere to shoot / aren't paying for stalking then you may get a bit of a blocker

Welcome from London.

Are you specifically interested only in target shooting or would you be considering doing some deerstalking? I only ask because this is primarily a deerstalking forum.

If you are able to undertake some paid stalks, and keep the evidence of them, this would be additional justification for possessing a deer rifle. Although there are better models available than a Lee-Enfield...........

I mean I'd love to give it a go but for now I'm just focused on getting my firearms certificate and target shooting

If the target club is rammed with applications, you could be waiting some time before you can even start your probationary membership, and it is normally at the end of that process and you become a full member that you can apply for an FAC.

Doing a number of paid stalks, using the estate rifle, may provide evidence to support an FAC application for stalking rifles, and you carry on going through the target club application at the same time.

It is probably easier to arrange paid stalks at the moment.

Welcome and good luck.

Club membership can sometimes be a long wait. I know that from my own experience and also having a couple of friends on the waiting list for the shooting club I am a member of.

Club membership takes ages. No easy way. Have a look at the F class GB. One of the guys that runs it called Ritchie is from your neck of the woods and may be able to help

Southport District Rifle Club shoot at Altcar ranges of a Sunday, not far away from you if you want to look them up. A few people shooting Enfields so a chance to have a go during the probationary period before you apply. Merseyside Firearms are unlikely to accept an application for a .303 without club membership.

Welcome, I am local to you, done a fair bit of stalking, but on relatively difficult ground so not many (7 to date) shot.
Where are you in Liverpool? Which club/clubs are you looking at?
There is Fulwood, Aintree (although club still has some issues, and further afield Warrington and South West Lancs. Plenty more further away if you are willing to travel.
I think Atherton Indoor Range (AIR) also run as a club and have a FAC section, you could try them>

Do you shoot air rifle, if not its a good place to start and will give you plenty of trigger practice at a fraction of the cost.

Realistically, its a bad time to start, my club has restricted numbers at Altcar, and with social distancing in the club house things are not easy, consequently they are not looking for new members, hopefully things will start to change later in the year.
