Norma beaten by Winchester!

I tried some of the Norma ammo that mate picked up for us both to 'play' with. From my 10/22 it was so poor that I might as well have been throwing the stuff ! Good ol' Winchester subsonics make thumbnail sized groups at 100 yds through that rifle, and luckily I have enough of those to keep me going for a bit ;)

Winnie 42max are my first choice. Yes the odd one goes with a crack and sometimes an ejection failure but I’ll take that for the accuracy.

FIOCCHI SUB SONIC BEATS R-50!!!!!
Some ammo works really well in a rifle. Change LOT numbers and that could go to the opposite. In this case, a LOT of Fiocchi Performance sub sonic shot groups smaller than R-50 in my T1X. Won't happen every day. ~Muir

I've used thousands of fiocchi subs also and they were pretty good in my rifles.

On a side note, Fiocchi 100gr soft point in 243 were outstanding, clover leaf 100 yards and £19 a box.

Also are Winchester still making the 40gr subs or is it 42gr only now?

I can't tell which box that is. The ones I'm trying at the moment are the same design of box but no tray. Just a little plastic boxe with all the bullets together. Not separated from each other.
They have the tray in them. All the hollow points are different sizes too

Soooo, in summary the consensus is that many rounds do not work in different rifles whilst paradoxically some are proverbial tack-drivers.
Anyone want to offer an informed explanation as to why this is so prevalent when bullet/rifle chamber/barrel specs are so precise?
Just curious…

I'd imagine its to do with barrel harmonics rather than anything else. That and quality control

Good question.
Apart from poor consistency in primer and powder quantity my money would go on bullet fit to bore.
As many a cast bullet will tell you the fit of the bullet must be slightly more than groove diameter.
Any gasses leaking unevenly and it's doomed to poor performance.
In fact, now I have few in stock I'm gonna measure some....is it raining there FB hint hint 😁

Wash your mouth out SD - it never rains in NI!
I guess when you consider the squillions of .22 bullets churned out by even one manufacturer there has got to be some variation in specs with a resultant impact (see wot I did there) on accuracy.
Next plan is to try to get some quality target .22 - usually subsonic and try them for accuracy - I wonder if they still sell Eley Tenex…..

I use like any of the eley target range
Club, standard and the pistol offerings, I think they were all the same really but they were consistent.

Now that is interesting thanks SD. From memory the CCI hv work for you but my cz hates them so I guess the learning point is try as many as you can, pick the best and lay in as many as you can get!

Spose now that you have measured all the boolits SD you should now build on the success of a strangely silent, long established, non-monthly draw winner, Mosin-owning member and slug your barrel?!
Err, can you video it please?

Oh I wondered when that was going to be suggested..
I'll measure some air gun pellets. If there is a big'n I'll push it through.
