Caught (and released) a few of those in a few different places - in another life - seems like a long time ago.....
The fish was very green - not ready to boat or release - this could have gone very wrong.
Marlin are very, very strong and unpredictable, unlike eg tuna which always fight in the same way.
Exciting sport though - Kenya is a good place for general blue water sport fishing but for a big marlin there are better places - seems to change frequently but Madeira, the Azores, Cape Verde's, Venezuela shock: - yup, been there) and of course Cairns.
We get plenty of them down here in sunny Whitianga (NZ). Only the occasional black in our local waters, but a good number of big blues each year, usually between xmas and march. Only ever hooked one and had it on for about 8 minutes. Figured it was only bill wrapped. HUGE buzz all the same.
Do it if you ever get the chance.
I cant be sure you will get Cairns type weather here though
