Over on Mike's home patch yesterday,a great deal of stubble & standing maize to go at,soon as we pitched up in full sunlight a fox was heard barking,so after deciding who was going to be where, I set up on the back of the truck, ranging different points for quick reference,it looked like the combine had no bottom in it when he did my field!, so Mike & his pigeon shooting buddies will be at it today

,
I was covering two fields by having an entry way through a thick hedgerow, one off the truck & one off sticks, the full shootable distance was out to a little over four hundred in places, back & forth through the gap over a period of about twenty minutes, then I spot a reddish brown blur right at the very end of the field I'm on sticks in, well that wasn't there before?..... sure enough the bino's confirm it is Charlie, lolling about in the sun ..... not having had much in the way of stalking recently, I decided I would risk creeping down the stubble

, trying for a gap in the hedge on the truck side as I went, walking on eggshells? no, more like giant light bulbs!

finally get a gap directly opposite the fox at a ranged 81 yards, still no sign of getting busted, but I need to negotiate myself down a deep dry ditch & up onto a knee, poking rifle through the growth & two strands of barbed wire, I can feel the mozzies feasting on my bottom lip & chin

forgot to deet up! Charlie sits up to consider a hare for tea, bye bye Charlie.
A little later just enough light to shoot by without a lamp, & I hear Mike's 22.250 take another.
A good day out on some ground I haven't been too for a good while.
