PCC elections - did you vote for improved firearms licensing?

BASC’s campaign during the Police and Crime Commissioner elections has secured commitments from 28 newly elected PCCs to improve firearms licensing.

Thank you to the SD members that took the time to make difference.

As individuals we can still do more.

During the campaign no replies were received from the elected PCC for the following forces: Avon and Somerset, Bedfordshire, Cleveland, Derbyshire, Durham, Dyfed Powys, Lancashire, Merseyside, Northumbria, Nottinghamshire, West Midlands,

If you have a certificate for any of the above areas please write to your new PCC asking them to ensure adequate resources are given to firearms licensing and setting up an independent advisory group. If you get a reply please forward to me at conor.ogorman@basc.org.uk

I had excellent service from Andy Dunbobbin's PCC office last year, (North Wales) ... sorted a major problem inside 48 hours for me. (Only drawback is, he is Labour):norty:

I emailed all the candidates but did not receive a response from any. I didn’t vote in the end as I couldn’t tell anything about either candidate

A bit patronising really Conor, we are not paid a wage to represent the shooting community.
Being talked down to in the BASC magazine a few years ago is what saw me cancel my membership.
Wake up.
Really, wake up.

Patronising or sensible? Any local politico is most likely to react to their own constituents. I suspect this is the reason for BASC's line of approach. What org are you a member of, and what is it (or are you) doing with PCCs? (Edit: Oh - I see you are in Scotland, which doesn't even have PCCs! )

Which do you think has more impact....one letter from BASC or emails from 130,000 individual members...?

I am sorry that you felt talked down to in the BASC magazine a few years ago. If you wish to discuss further please PM me and let's discuss and I will try to ensure that does not happen again.

As regards campaigns, I do think we all need to do our part to support shooting and the PCC elections and the upcoming general election are opportunities for us all to influence politicians. We cannot just leave it to the shooting organisations.

Think of all the posts on here complaining about firearms licensing - if we each spent some time emailing PCCs as well as posting on here I truly believe it will help instigate change. Just a thought.
