Peli case foam insert modeling

I drew round what wanted to go in there with a marker pen then got a knife blade for a jig saw and used that, it meant the cuts were perfectly perpendicular and it was a great finish, if you draw line on what will become the underside of the foam if any marks are left after cutting they don’t show....
alternatives I’ve seen used to good effect are electric bread knives etc too but if you have a jig saw, a pack of foam cutting blade will be under a tenner and do a great job.

how did you do the bottom part appreciate the cutting of the outline is fairly straight forward but was wondering about the bottom part if that makes sense

The base of the foam otherwise the gun will have no protection on the sides if that makes sense or are you cutting the whole.shape out then lining the box also if that makes sense

I did mine marking out with blackboard chalk and electric bread knife. Cut inside the lines so the foam grips the gun and parts, you can always trim off but not add back!

Same for me. Drew round rifle. Mod etc and cut with a craft knife. I kept the felt pen about 0.5cm inside the actual outline of the rifle and for the barrel simply a straight cut of the right length to make it an overall tight fit for the rifle and ensure no rattling around

I lay out all of the parts, as mentioned, the opposite of how I want them in the case. I bias the weight at the end with the wheels.

I would suggest laying the parts out on the foam, in the case, especially so you can see where the wheels sit, and allow space for them. Tight is good, you don't want parts loose.

I would recommend that you lay out in various ways, and as close to each other as you can, safely, leaving as much spare space as you can, because I guaranty that at some point, there'll be something else you want to put in there !

Personally, having bought an electric carving knife, I found a large, broad normal kitchen knife, perfect for doing the long straight lines. Do not "saw", it causes scraggy cuts, one, or two long smooth cuts, is perfect. I use a much smaller thinner blade for the curves, and smaller cuts.

Have a knife sharpener/steel, handy, and use it very regularly, blades dull fast on the foam.

Once you are happy with the layout, and have cut out the sections, put the foam in the correct way, and see how the parts fit. The cut foam is normally 50mm thick, and smaller parts, and the barrel, if you have a breakdown rifle, disappear. Use the cut out parts, to adjust the height.

Once you have everything as I like, I insert all of the cut out parts back into the holes, making them flush with the bottom. Do this even if you're not using to adjust the level, but mark the ones that will not be used.

I then use a carpet/flooring spray glue on the base, and main foam. It absorbs the glue very quickly, so let it dry, and give it a second coating. Avoid the ones not being used the best you can

Once tacky, remove the ones not being used, and drop the foam into the case, so it is aligned first time ! Fit the excess foam into their respective holes, & top foam, and shut the lid for a few hours, so the foam is compressed, and glues well.

Once done, you will find the bare holes with no additional height adjusters, will have glue residue on the base. Cut a very thin layer from the removed piece, and use it to line the hole, light spray of glue.

Thanks for the help

Keep.me posted Simon have you bought the case yet ?
Yes, I bought an SKB case off eBay and had the replacement foam delivered before Christmas. I was hoping to get to RSA in August but I’m not sure if that will be possible given the current situation. What is your timeframe?
